    What is User Reputation?

    If you found someones post on INGO to be helpful you can thank them by adding to their reputation score. If you didn't appreciate someones post you can you can leave negative reputation. It is our hope that system will be used mostly for thanking a member for their informative post.

    How do I give out Reputation?

    To leave reputation simply click this icon
    reputation.gif
    that appears under the username/avatar next to the user
    user_online.gif
    user_offline.gif
    icon. Along with the positive or negative reputation you can leave a message.

    To view a users reputation level notice the box(s) below the user name

    Green = positive

    Grey = Neutral
    reputation_balance.gif

    Red = Negative

    How do I know if someone left me reputation?

    If you have received new reputation a notification appears in the upper right hand side of the page. Click that notifiation to view your rep.

    You can view your reputation and comments at any time by clicking on
    nav_usercp.gif
    and scroll to the bottom of the page. Your 30 most recent reputation comments will be displayed.

    Other Details from Scutter

    The vBulletin manual doesn't go into a ton of detail, but from what I can tell, the score you give when you rate a post is based in some way on your own profile (which seems to be a combination of your post count, your time since you registered, and your own reputation score). So if someone with a low post count or a short reg. time gives you reputation, it carries less weight than someone like Fenway. There seems to be a non-zero threshold at which the color goes from gray to green. You may have received rep points from someone who didn't have enough to cross the threshold.

    It's no longer working for me. When I click on the little balance icon for someone's message, nothing happens.

    That helps me. I kept seeing all the rep and +1 business and was starting to figure it out but didn't the mechanics of it. Same way with the friend thing, I was pretty bewildered when someone added me as a friend. Most of my forums have been on usenet (none gun related) where none of that came in to play.

    boy, i really do everything from my computer....

    does god cry when you add to your reputation? that's what my mom told me

    If you click the scales on one of your own posts, it will tell you your current rep level. It will not allow you to rep yourself.

    I always spread the good REP. What goes around comes around. Even on INGO. I like the REP system here. And think maybe this thread should be up top for a while, for the new people to be informed on how things work here.

    Yeah heres a great idea. You could maybe add way to give a person REP from there profile page. That would be very helpfull. Just a thought.
