Bolivar man charged in connection with threats to shoot up Twilight screening | Springfield News-Leader | news-leader.com
"A Bolivar man has been charged after authorities say he admitted to planning to shoot up a movie theater screening of Twilight this weekend."
"In a probable cause statement prepared by the Bolivar Police Department, police say Lammers’ mother contacted authorities Thursday, concerned that her son had purchased weapons similar to the ones used in the Aurora, Colo., movie theater shooting and that she was concerned he might be planning a movie theater shooting."
Sometimes I wonder if news organizations do us a diservice covering tragedies and certain crimes by planting the idea into the heads of others.
A classic example: A local news organization covers theft of catalytic converters from parked vehicles. In doing so the news caster mentions the salvage value therein. He discusses the tools used, ease of thefts, for the benefit of the less than academic thieves out there he points out what a catalytic converter looks like underneath a car, and lastly discusses which local salvage yards are on the look out for stolen goods. The seed is sown, in short order the number of catalytic converter thefts rise.
