Went to my bank today (First Merchant in Winchester) to make a withdraw. I saw a very small (maybe 2"x3") NO FIREARMS PERMITTED sticker on the door. It must be fairly new because it wasn't there a month or so ago. I did have my pistol with me (concealed) and went ahead and made my withdraw. After I was finished I asked if the manager would be in tomorrow because I wanted to speak with him about the new sign. The teller was nice and said he was gone right then (4:30) but would be in the next day. I told him I would be back tomorrow to discuss the new sign and if I would be closing our account or not.

After I left I thought I would call the main corporate customer service number (800-205-3464) and ask to see if this was an individual bank policy or a new corporate policy. The lady that answered the phone said it was a corporate policy. I asked her why. She said that the bank doesn't want guns in there due to safety concerns. I told her that my wife and I are both law abiding people and did not like being denied our right to protect ourselves while we were doing our business there. The CS rep said that the bank was not my property and I had no rights to that. I asked her if the bank was going to provide me with an armed guard to walk me to and from my car every time I had business there. She said yes they can (there is not and has never been a security guard at this bank that I can recall in the past 30 years of going inside there). She said if I wanted the manager would do it. I asked her if he was armed. She snickered and said no, why would he be.

At this point the mouthpiece of her phone was covered while she mumbled something to someone else. All I could make out was the word "guns". When she came back I told her that my wife and I both make reasonable large deposits and withdraws on a regular basis for our farm and did not like the new policy and wanted to find out who to discuss this with higher up at the bank. Again mouthpiece covered and mumbles. When she came back both were laughing and I was told that I could discuss it with the branch manager if I was that sacred. I asked her what good that would do if it was a corporate policy, he had no control over it. I wanted someone at corporate to talk to. She refused to give me a name and kept asking in a condescending way "is that all sir?"

My father is 70 and has been banking at this location (former Randolph County Bank) for as long as I can remember. I've been a customer since I was still in high school (43 now). My wife and I own a 200+ acre farm and jobs on the side. It's not a small amount of money that we deal with at this branch. To be treated like this really pi$$es me off.

I will be speaking to the branch manager tomorrow and I will get a name of someone at corporate to speak to as well. Updates will follow.

if it was me I would just keep doing business there with my gun on me. Sign carries no law. If they discover I am carrying and ask me to leave I will....then close all my accounts and go to another bank. Chances are they will never know unless you OC...business as usual, bank sheep sleep in peace.

When first indiana became M&I and then BMO HARRIS a no hats sun glasses or guns sign appeared in the window. It happened after a bank robbery the first in towb ever (Well maybe since the depression) I use the drive thru now. I know all the tellers and even with a hat and sun glass they would know me.

When I have to go inside I go to the drive thru first and have the manager escort me armed into the extablishment. They are working with me but I am also looking at banking elsewhere.

Been looking at Hunnington banks but don't know if they are better or worse. They want to give me 100 dollars to open an account.

Don't bother with Chase Bank, they're at least that bad when it comes to ignoring yours rights as enumerated in the 2nd Amendment.

I won't be changing to a mega bank if I do leave. I don't care for the "conceal it and they won't know" idea. I don't like to do business with places that don't respect our rights or outright stomp all over them. I won't buy or sell on eBay or use paypal, I won't eat at BW3 or places like it, if I can't carry in the jewelry store then I shop somewhere else, and if I can help it I won't order something online that comes from a restrictive non-free state either.

I'm holding off closing the account until I speak with the manager and someone at corporate. My Sony and I will be meeting with one of them tomorrow. Anyone have any pointers or suggestions? Any advice from someone who has had a meeting like this in the past? How did it go for you?

Mad respect my friend! I too have that stance. The whole, "CC and no one will know" is BS. If you cant carry how you please in an establishment, DON'T DO BUSINESS with them. Shelbyville just got a BW3, and all my friends want to eat there, I've had to tell then a least a dozen times now I refuse to do business with them, Dennys too! All "No Firearms" signs and "policies" do for me is let me know where I'll be taking my hard earned money

My Chase branch doesn't have a no guns, no hats or shades sticker anywhere. I wear my hat and shades in there all the time and I'm usually armed. I'd say they're a good deal better than OP's bank.

i've OC'd into 2 Chase banks in....Hamilton County *gasp* and no one said a word to me.

Regardless, Chase sucks and if they didn't service my mortgage, I'd tell them to service something else. :):

Huntington is no better. Read through this thread. Seems there's a lot of frustration with the banks not allowing us to carry inside.

I OC into my PNC branch all the time. There is a sign on the door that says "no hoods, no hats, no sunglasses." That's it. The tellers know me and don't care if I carry in there.

I imagine paid (ie salary, benefits, insurance, etc) armed escorts continually through the day might change their minds?

I bank at Kentucky Employees Credit Union in Frankfort, KY and I have carried into the Credit Union on numerous occasions and never had anyone mention that I was carrying. Now because I dont live in Frankfort, KY and I live in Indiana, I do the bulk of my banking at a Park Community Credit Union, and the other day, while OCing I noticed a new small sticker by the door, you know the Pistol with a slash thru it. Well I walked right on in while OCing and the tellers all greeted me by name and one even asked if I had been shooting lately.

My Chase bank doesn't have a no firearm sign, and they never bother me about open carrying in there. One of the tellers once told me she felt safer when I was in there.

Have your cell phone on "record" and tucked in your front shirt pocket. That way if there is ever a problem with "who said what" you have definitive proof.

I'm not saying that he would, but a hostile, anti-gun bank manager could very well accuse you to the police of threatening him over the issue
