Because people are sheep buy poorly produced garbage as long as it looks cool.

SHTF Gun = one you can put THOUSANDS of rounds through without issue. KelTec is not this.

As posted before, here is the KelTec armorer's tool:

I was thinking that a derringer would be pretty useless... hard to shoot accurately, 1 or 2 shots, the bad guys will laugh at it... the list goes on.

I will go out on the limb and start cutting on the wrong side, but my vote goes to any shortbarrel compact handgun you are not proficient with, regardless of make.:dunno:

I don't think any other the new sub compact .45s would be a good SHTF choice. Too limited by capacity. Give me something full sized.

As for those who don't trust Bersa, my Thunder 9 eats absolutely any ammo I put through it. That's a plus when you can't be picky.

Why all the Kel Tec hate? I have. Owned both the 380 and 32 and never had a hiccup. I still carry the 32 for deep concealment.

Anything made by Bersa, Taurus, Ruger semi autos, keltec, etc

Seems like another members who's expertise on Taurus is what he heard from his neighbors step sisters mailman who knows a guy down the street from him, who's garbage man knows a little old lady that heard a drunk mutter something about the meat cutter saying that the cashiers uncle knew a guy who passed away that lived next to some fool who never owned a gun but heard something from a reliable source that they are not worth anything.

We have too many Taurus owners here on INGO who have never had a problem with a Taurus firearm, I have owned 6 Taurus products that have never given me a problem, along with the 3 my best friend has, 4 that my brother in law has and many other people that I know that own them.

You will hear something about every gun manufacture with something being back, it is the law of nature when that many firearms are cranked out.

Heck I owned 1 Springfield that was a POS, but I don't trash the brand, I trash the one that I owned.

Exactly. My wife owns 2 Tauri, and they have been nothing but perfect for her and her wants.

On the other side, I have heard some fairly frightening horor stories about Les Baer 1911s. With the price tag that comes on those things, they better do everything but yesterdays dishes without a single hiccup.

I have had and now own Taurus pieces. They have all been spot on. I have heard the horror stories etc and like everything man made there will be a bad 1 or 2 that starts up the POS rumors.

As to what I think would be the worst thing to have if SHTF...A Davis derringer. But if that is all you have it will have to do.

the best thing about those ruger guns - when you run out of bullets, you can use the gun as a hammer. and a screwdriver. or a jackstand.
you can cast bullets from pieces from the receiver and they'll still fire.

on topic tho, worst IMO would be whatever you can't find ammo for, like say a 5.7. while in theory a GREAT gun, you can't find anything to put in them.

guns are investments, and like the rest of your investments, you have to diversify.
when 9mm dried up, .40 was available in plenty. now .40 has dried up. 10mm and .38 still around.

the best gun is the one that is loaded.

I think this thread was just intended to stir the pot...

Maybe just a little. But mainly I, the original poster, was thinking that we can figure out the best guns for SHTF if we know what qualities to avoid.
