I am looking into getting an ankle rig for a compact XDm. The problem is I have never used an ankle rig and know nothing about them. So I was wondering:

#1 INGO what ankle rig do you use?
    #2 Is it comfortable?
#3 Would you recommend it to a friend?
#4 Does it stay in place?
#5 What would you consider its biggest flaw (if any)?
#6 What type of shoes do you rock your rig with?
#7 Does it have a thumb break?

    Thanks guys! :draw:

I don't currently use one, but I did in the past when I worked in an office that required deep concealment.

#1 INGO what ankle rig do you use?

It was a modified Galco Ankle Wallet. In it I carried a Kel-Tec P3AT.

    #2 Is it comfortable?

Not particularly. Adding some sheepskin padding helped, however.

#3 Would you recommend it to a friend?

I wouldn't recommend ankle holsters in general, unless it was your only option.

#4 Does it stay in place?

Yes, retention was fine, even with light jogging. A full-out run, however, would've been a different story. This was mainly due to the fact that the P3AT is a very flat and lightweight gun. I personally wouldn't want to carry anything larger than a J-frame on an ankle.

#5 What would you consider its biggest flaw (if any)?

It held the gun close to the body, which kept it from moving around, but at the cost of some comfort (tight). The biggest flaws I see in any ankle holster are the difficulty in drawing quickly, and the hampered movement of the leg.

#6 What type of shoes do you rock your rig with?

I was wearing black dress shoes.

    1. While I don't use an ankle holster now I have in the past.
    2. Yes it was.
    3. Only if they had no other way to conceal a gun.
    4. Holster stayed in place, gun fell out once while chasing a BG (last time I wore it).
    5. Not easy to get to in a hurry. It takes a lot of practice to become proficient drawing the gun.
    6. Jack Boots!!
    7. I think the holster I had used Velcro.

Tall footwear like 8" combat boots & small/thin lightweight handguns like a Ruger LCP work best.

Drawing from an ankle holster is really no more difficult or different than kneeling or bending over to tie your shoe/boot laces, although that motion does make you somewhat vulnerable for a couple seconds, so if you are ankle carrying your primary, either draw early or draw from cover, don't wait til an attacker is on top of you.

I have carried a Glock 26 in a Renegade ankle holster for better than 10 years. Once you get used to it, it's quite comfortable. Wear it with dress/casual shoes usually. I cut a black sock and hemmed the edge. I pull that sock (tube) up over the bottom of the gun/rig so that it is all hidden from casual observation even when I sit and the pants rise up a little. It does have a thumb break, and I highly recommend this rig for when you need an ankle rig.

I don't care for any ankle holster. I used to carry a BUG in one but got to thinking. If I needed it the last thing I wanna be doing is bending over or kneeling to gain get to a weapon. I sure as heck would not want one for a primary weapon. But I know a lot of guys that use them.

I agree but it's not for bending over.

It is for when I am getting the stuffing kicked out of me while in spider guard in the Wal-Mart parking lot.

In a fight where will you be? Right, on the ground.

Possible I guess and I have considered that. Where I carry mine I can still get to it no matter what the position. I don't think there is a right way or a wrong way. The main thing IMO is to have one.
