I keep getting asked to donate to the various GOP 'victory' campaigns.

Many of them are phone calls where I ask some simply questions.

One question I am still waiting to hear an answer for is this: If the GOP wins control of the house, will the new speaker sell off Nancy Pelosi's 747 Jumbo Jet that she got as a perk for being Speaker of the House and simply fly on commercial airliners as many prior speakers have done in the past?

Still waiting for that answer . . . and its one reason why I will probably be pulling the levers for Libertarians this fall.

You mean you believe Nancy Pelosi will actually give her jet up even if she is voted out. Wouldn't suprise me if she wrote herself a grandfather clause allowing her to keep it forever slipped into the healthcare bill.

Well that wouldn't surprise me either but that is not what I mean.

My real question is did the GOP actually learn anything in the past several years?

They controlled the House, Senate and the White House and they totally mucked it up. The Dems then took over the House and Senate while Bush was still in power and for a while it seemed like we had a choice between RINO's and Liberal Democrats. Now Obama is the boss and the Dems control the House & Senate and they have run amok with power. They went on a giddy spending spree that dwarfed that of the GOP's but its still the same basic problem.

So has the GOP gotten the message?

Do they actually 'get it' and understand we are tired of politics as usual?

If so, they should make a big deal about the privlages of office to which queen Nancy has taken for herself. They should campaign around selling her jet, and use that as a symbol of scaling back the whole of the government.

I used to be a heavy donor to the GOP. Several of the committees have my cell phone number. They all assure me that the GOP has gotten the message, essentially learned their lesson.

Well if they have then why does the GOP trot out RINOs to run in open elections? Why does the GOP support RINOs in elections where there are true conservatives? Why has the GOP ignored the states desires in primary elections and supported candidates that have been turned away by the voters?

If the GOP has gotten religion, it needs to replace Michael Steel. Leaders, if you want to call them that, like John McCain, John Boehner, Mitch McConnel, Lindsey Graham and Richard Lugar are all big spending, Democrat leaning, RINO types who have a long history of bending on many conservative issues and their voting records PROVE them to be anything but what the GOP platform proclaims. There is very little difference between any of those folks and turncoats like Arlen Specter and Charlie Crist who used to be proclaimed as valued members of the GOP but now are no longer even in the party and run against the GOP.

I'll put a C-note down right now - no, the R's have not learned the first bit not to do the the wrong-doing in D.C., and they will continue "business as usual" if they get a majority.

    You can quote me.

That is also my bet and why I started this thread.

I've yet to see any reason to believe that the GOP has learned a darn thing. Even if every member of INGO votes in the Indiana Senate race, and even if they all vote for the Libertarian candidate, its likely that Dan Coats (RINO-R) will win.

My hope is to see him win by the smallest margin possible with Rebecca Sink Burris coming in with a surprisingly strong level of support. She won't change the election, but I want to show the GOP that they need to wake up.

Has the gov't ever given up toys or power? That's why the dems havn't done a lick about the power grabs W pit in. Both parties are power hungry, they'll just point fingers and say that the other one is the bad guy.

Well, the reason they don't answer is probably because they don't know what you're talking about. People pick up Internet myth and repeat it and then demand everyone conform to their version of reality based on that myth. Nancy Pelosi, as much as I despise her, I am forced to offer a defense here, does not use a private government provided 747. After the 9/11 attacks, the President (yes, it was W) ordered that the Speak, being 3rd in the line of succession, be transported on a military aircraft to bypass possible attacks on the civilian air system. A C-20B was provided, and when the Speaker, Hastert was going to Illinois, that was adequate to make the trip non-stop. Pelosi's district is in California though, and the small C-20B can't make the trip non-stop under all weather conditions, so the House Sergeant-at-Arms requested that an aircraft be made available that could fly non-stop when the C20-B was unable. The Air Force responded, that based on availability, that they would supply a C-32 (based on the 757) that could fly non-stop whenever the C-20B was considered unable. Apparently, Pelosi has very rarely used the larger aircraft. The Speaker doesn't own the aircraft, the Air Force does, provided at Presidential discretion, so how is the House, Republican or otherwise, supposed to "sell it off." The Speaker can repudiate its use, but that's about it. Making political decisions based on Internet mythology is about as useful as using astrology.

Do you know the difference between a Libertarian candidate for office and a Socialist Incumbent? The Libertarian has yet to be elected.

Look, it's a power thing. You start off with best intentions, and after time you devolve to the tyranny of the machine. You can only have so many people fawn over you, women say they want you, yada yada yada until you fast forward and are intoxicated by the power. It happens to everyone, and just because there's an L behind your name doesn't mean you're any more or less corruptable.

I am skeptical of someone that says they can't be overpowered by the system. That means they won't be effective, and if not effective they won't last. It's been that way for thousands of years. Why would it change now?
