I'm relatively new to this stuff but why would someone from Indiana need a Utah CCW? I've seen quite a few posts on this and just don't understand the need.

Because more states honor Utah's permit than Indiana's. Makes legal carry more available across the country.

Pooty22 what Purple 72 posts is true but the main reason that Indiana residents obtain non resident permits from other states is because of our proximity to Ohio.

Ohio does not honor or recognize an Indiana LTCH mainly because Ohio Govt does not feel that we hoosiers are trained properly, if at all, and they dont like us to carry guns in their state without some sort of acceptable training.

So, Indiana residents who want to make sure they are legal in Ohio, obtain other CCW permits that Ohio does acknowledge.

Some states only honor a state's permit as long as the holder is a resident of that state, but Ohio isnt the case and will accept the Utah Permit held by an Indiana resident.
Michigan however, would not accept it from an Indiana resident, but will accept it from a Utah resident. Michigan does accept an Indiana LTCH but people need to do their due diligence in obtaining non resident permits for the purpose of carrying in another state.

Utah is the most popular one and then comes Florida, for Hoosiers who want to legally carry in Ohio.
