Yep. One of the interesting things is that you can see that it's not just the fire/temperature that sets off the main charge explosively it's that plus the pressure. Without the pressure, they had a hard time getting the main charge to ignite and when they did, only a minimal burn.

fire takes time to take effect.
even if it's a very short time.

Wouldn't it require something to hold against the primer, to prevent it from exploding off the rear and forcing the ignition forward?

yes.
but then it would bulge/split the brass, everything would move a bit, but not like a bullet being fired from a chamber.

I know when a .22 is hit with a hammer, it goes bang.
