My wife seems to think I am taking too much ammo. To me short of the long gun thats a normal day. Just wondering how much ammo others travel, with?

In the past I have taken my XD9 with 8-10 extra loaded mags in the carry case. If in the 5th wheel, other options as well.

If I plan to do some shooting on the trip I take more.

Depends on where I'm going and what cities/places I might be passing through. Generally I take my EDC with 2 spare mags and a compact rifle with a 30rd mag inserted. That's it. For a long trip extended trip

How big a vehicle do you have?

Take enough ammo so you have to pull across the scales on the interstates.

Where the hell are you going? Indianapolis?

    :):

I just take what's practical, which means what I can reasonably carry if need be.

    Glock 19, 3 spare mags.
    Shield Plus, 2 spare mags.
Maybe a box of Federal HST.

Sounds like a bare minimum to me.
When we travel out of state it's my EDC, xtra mags, BUG, compact rifle with multiple mags and extra ammo for each.
    Then there's my wife's gear......

Depends on where I'm going. I often drive to Naperville or to KC twice a year.
I usually carry my Shield Plus with 2 extra mags and a snubby with 2 reloads for it.
    Or.
If I'm EDCing my .45 Commander I'll bring three 8 round mags and then a snubby with 2 reloads.

When we were traveling through multiple large cities like St. Louis, Tulsa, OKC & others around 2020 is when I started traveling with multiple loaded mags.

There was a lot of uncertainty & stories of mobs blocking streets, dragging people out of cars, etc.

… My wife seems to think I am taking too much ammo.

What you’re packing isn’t unusual. For a week long trip within a day‘s drive home, 2 or 3 firearms with 2 or 3 mags each (approx 70 rounds) plus accoutrements (holsters, lock boxes, etc.) is typical for many. If things go south while you’re gone, all you can count on having is what you have with you. Some take a bit more or less depending.

My range bags are in my trunk so I carry a fair amount of ammo in various calibers. I try to visit the range wherever I am vacationing.

If I'm flying, I typically take a SA pistol with a couple of mags and a revolver and a box of ammo for each. Some airlines are now limiting a checked firearm to one.
