One ambitious company is offering what it is calling “the world’s first and only handheld Gauss rifle” for pre-order for the price of $3,375. The rifle is claimed to be capable of shooting a wide variety of metal projectiles using powerful magnets.
Don't know about the 200 FPS...
Some kids built a capacitive discharge system on rails for fun, part of an electronics class.
The projectiles we're fast enough the chronograph wouldn't register them, kept reading error.
Cranked it down to about 1/4 the caps working and it started to register on the crono at a little over 3,000 FPS.
There is a lot of potential in the technology, all of it is directed at big guns.
Too much energy consumption for hand held units right now, we'll see how super caps & new battery technology changes things.
