Wear a mask. Leave for awhile. Nasty stuff in that smoke that you don’t want….
    Got the mask :yesway:

The wind is in my favor today but didn't go out til a hour ago. Fed the feathered freeloaders and it isn't to bad, couldn't smell it. Lastnight was bad though, had a mask on while out taking crappy photos.

So sorry to hear about the fire, bcannon. Really glad to hear everyone got out ok. Really curious why they didn’t get the tanks of propane OFF quickly. Those are mega bombs when they explode!!! I had to investigate a propane explosion at the request of the Indiana State Police for a single propane explosion. The tank was ok. Homeowner’s wife and house - not so much. It was like a 155mm howitzer round landed right in the middle of the house. Hole was deeper than a basement and the house originally was just a 3 feet crawl space. The tank didn’t go, but the propane found a source of ignition and the coroner and investigators were busy when I arrived.
For all you CZers, propane is HEAVIER than air and will seek the lowest voids, pocketing, and building higher concentration. When it goes, it makes natural gas look like a campfire winey roast. Even though I deal with natural, I had to go thru training for propane. They had a bad explosion in Puerto Rico that is the base for dealing with propane leaks.
Once again, REALLY GLAD to hear everyone survived, but sorry for the loss of homes.

Found a nice big block of figured maple on the internet, going to have it cut in half and the edges routed picture frame style by friends who know how to do this. Making up some old style aqua fortis stain with ferric nitrate and hydrochloric acid to color it. This is what a Kentucky long rifle would have used two centuries ago.

I have two big 8 point racks that I wanted to make a special mount for as I never took the heads to a taxidermist.

    Dinosoar Time with MM !

Picked-up one of my larger fossils. It's my first chunk of a Triceratops. Notably, a fairly large chunk of it's *frill.

*The frill of a Triceratops is made of fibrolamellar bone and is part of the dinosaur's skull. The frill is made up of elongated bones that look like a giant fan near the horns. The frill protects the Triceratops from predators like the Tyrannosaurus. The name Triceratops comes from the Greek and means "three-horned face.

The above photo is of the famous "Big John", the largest trike ever recovered. The red arrow shows a puncture in his frill .... probably from an attack by a T-Rex !

My piece is about 6" long, 2" thick, and weighs .... ummm, about 2 lbs+

Here's a crop of the bone structure. It's extremely dense, probably to provide protection.
