Wait... they were in the garage for several hours... moved back... and the President apologized, even though he didn’t even make the order???
    When did all this happen.

Seriously, do you think maybe he was getting his tail pipe reamed from every direction regardless of who gave that order. He is the captain after all.

Possible, but given how fast the turnaround was, I doubt it. Hell AOC offered her office to sleep in, and the FLOTUS visited them today. If Biden had a hand in it, he deserves the bad press. If he didn’t, 3 days after being handed the “keys,” his response is a good one.

This has been front and center all day so it aint quick. This came from the top down. As in his handlers manipulating the right strings to make him move.

Governors generals and the like have been steaming mad and openly said so. Yeah, he had to jump and save face. I would not want to be the person that gave that ridiculous order though. No way.

Mitt Romney has been photo Opp today over this.

Wait until he sends them to be shot at in Iran...they'll long for the garage! (sadly)
As far as being in the Nation's Capitol and not in an AOR with operational command under a Unified Combatant Command Commander... the empty hotels wouldn't meet the government lodging rate and a tent city would be bad optics?

Nothing new here. Democrats took over the military will suffer just as it did in the Obama era. Now is the time to retire early or get out because it will only get worse.
If one looks at the military solely as a vehicle for opportunity, then if they feel that way, I can’t fault them. If they also want to serve and be a credit to their nation, then I don’t imagine how “comfortable” it is from administration to administration plays that large into it.

I assume you're one of those people who will make up excuses for Obama sending our troops to train ISIS.

To be fair US soldiers have been deployed all over the world for decades.
Most of the time they slept with no roof above their head, miles away from any power outlet, with no access to a bathroom for days.
With no way to contact their families for weeks.
All that while being under constant danger from insurgent attacks.
Getting hit with mortar rounds at night.
Having to worry about IEDs whenever they go somewhere.

I find it funny (and ridiculous) that people just now get offended by their living conditions.

"OMG they are sleeping directly on marble floor!"

"OMG how are they going to charge their cellphone?!"

Been deployed in DC is the easiest and safest deployment of their career.

No soldier deployed in DC will come back in a coffin.

They have it WAY worst overseas and nobody cares about their living condition or the way they are treated!

Where's the outrage when planes full of coffins land on US soil after overseas deployments?

People should care about the military 365 days a year.
Not just for political reasons when they are deployed by someone they didn't vote for.
You're way off the mark, Sylvain. When forward deployed, they live in rough conditions because there are no better alternatives. When deployed in the heart of a first world country, it isn't that better conditions aren't available it is that their chain of command just doesn't care enough to find some. Put 'em up in some suburban Motel 6 or Super 8 for God's sake and convoy them in and out if that's what it takes. They could sure find a budget for bunting and decorations and to have live music. If security was so crucial, you'd think they'd want them rested and sharp - unless they're just another prop

Start a new one. Be specific in the OP whats expected in your thread. Possibly you can escape the character assassination attempts and the thread stands a chance to stay on course. Unless its Pineapple on pizza and food in general. We always take a break to talk about food.

And the knuckle heads lost their fracking minds in the last one. It was either ban about 10 members or close the thread.

    I see your point.

I was merely pointing out that some folks seem outraged by this, when the rest of the year they don't give much thought to what the military does, and how soldiers are treated.

I'm talking about journalists, folks online etc ... not necessarily folks on INGO.

Maybe I didn't make myself clear.
I wasn't saying the troops should be sleeping in a parking garage obviously.
Or maybe I'm way off as you say and not understanding what's going on.

I also read that the troops in DC needed to be "combat ready", that's why they had them sleeping inside the Capitol building next to their guns, and not a few miles away in a motel.

Now with over 25K troops I'm sure they could have some sort of rotation in place, to have troops resting a few miles away why other on guard at the Capitol.

After 16 years in the Marines, 14 of that as forward combat Marine...
You go where the threat is.
    .
Now, in this situation, the threat is directly in the capitol building itself.
Remember, the seat of the planer's oldest, and strongest democracy was overrun by misguided radicals...
    .
That's because there are a bunch of people that believe Elvis is still alive, Joe Biden is JFK Jr. in a 'CGI Mask', and the earth is flat, kiddie brothels under pizza places with no basement, etc.
    .
No mortars, no RPGs, no snipers, no complaints about missing meals...
Just complaints about sleeping and not being able to charge phones...
Also point out, it wasn't Marines complaining...
Go Army but be advised Starbucks might not be available from time to time...

    Could be anywhere
Oh please. I've worked in the military and training military folks from all services for decades. You make sure there are preparations in place before deploying. Even in rough deployments the troops would have sleeping gear of some sort...certainly facilities to take care of the call of nature and avoid spreading disease; it's not like you could dig latrines in DC.

These folks weren't deploying into a shooting war, they were deploying to protect a ceremony and diner party for a senile socialist chinese sock puppet.

And of course the Marines wouldn't complain. Why do they call the Jar Heads? Hold them up to the light and you can see right through. (insert inter-service rivalry joke disclaimer here)

Having served under both R and D CICs I can say you'd probably be surprised. I gladly re-enlisted my first time under Bush Sr. Had the end of my enlistment come while serving under an R I'd have re-enlisted for a second time. I enjoyed being a soldier under Bush Sr and was damned good at what I did but after having to use government assistance to feed my family and the general environment under Clinton I decided to get out. The changes that took place under Clinton were palpable, you knew the folks in charge had no use, respect or concern for those in uniform. It was well known and expected by the senior ranking men I worked for.

It was exactly the same on the MCSD. Hired and serving under a R Sheriff I was having a blast, working my butt off, joined the SWAT team & earned my Sgt Stripes quicker than most. When F Anderson ran we were warned by the men and women who had served under D Sheriff's and they were spot on with their predictions. Completely shattered and ruined what was once a damned fine agency.
