    yeah, i turned off images and all that..
    switching off java locally wold turn it off for my whole browser, assuming i can even do it on the computer i might be on at the time..
    but other forums that use the same , or similar BB hosting software have links to text only form of the site..
    works a whole lot faster and on more platforms..

    Get Firefox and turn of automatic picture loading. That will make the pages load almost as quickly as with a high speed connection, albeit without the pictures, obviously.

    I too am in an area that does not get high speed.

    What platform does this site not work on? Are you on dial up?

    no i amm not on dial up, i asked if this forum had a text only version, like others running the same BB software...
    is it a feature not turned on, a plug in the costs $, or a cutom job...?

    as far as i know this site works on most full browsers, but takes time to load and render..

    as far as ones i know it has problems with;
    old IE browsers, PDAs , and systems with jave turned off..

    even with the most recent IE or firefox, and a fast new computer.. i can read the posts faster than it can bring a page up..

    plus one does not really need t know the location and rating of the poster on every message in a thread......
    ( btw i am on a PDA right now)

    the overall site is great.. it is just tiresome to have to browse through the same stuff just to get to the meat, the real post..

    so it would not matter if i am at my home desk on a T1, i would still use a text only option if i had it...

    No it does not have a text only version. I asked you to provide examples of text only versions of forums running vBulletin software. I'm not saying they don't exist. I'm asking you to provide examples so I can take a look.

    I don't know if it is a feature.

    How much time are we talking about here? I never have a problem with this site loading in a timely fashion. Sure text only would be faster.

    as far as ones i know it has problems with;
    old IE browsers, PDAs , and systems with jave turned off..

    I'm not going to worry about old IE browsers. This site loads fine on my Sprint Palm Centro although I have heard of people having problems viewing vbulletin forums with iphones.

    even with the most recent IE or firefox, and a fast new computer.. i can read the posts faster than it can bring a page up..

    :dunno: I have no problems like that here.

    We are running vBulltin here and that example runs IPB forum software

    here is a link i have at hand..
    this one is not running Vbulletin..
    but similar software.

    Forums Index > Care, Maintenance, and Troubleshooting

    again, i did not say it had problems..

    This is vBulletin but we are running the most recent version and this would not work

    Grayscale Lo-Fi - vBulletin.org Forum

    a little googling found me this..
    i do know much about this perticular BB software.. so it might not be able to do it, other maybe custom jobs...
