My puppy came in about three hours ago with a 3 inch gash. Got to play vet with my wife this afternoon. Got out the surgery kit and put three sutures and will let the rest pull together so the wound will drain. Our vet said it would be a three hour wait and about $200.

Gave him a local and took it like a champ. My wife said she prays I never have to stitch her up.......

    sutures $2,
    time playing vet-priceless

I'm guessing barb wire. It was a clean cut and he is just laying around. Puppy is still under the effect of the local.

I got some "local" by just asking my doctor a while back

Use Oranges to practice sewing your stitches. It will give you probably the most realistic and affordable training for this that you can find.

    a side note:

Animal care products and human care products basically the same on many products.

The are usually much more affordable and available with out a prescription for most items.

Anti-biotic and vitamins and many other things available on line or at the local farm and fleet or Rural King.

BTW Good job on the pooch. :yesway:

Watch his temp for sign of infection and keep an eye on the wound itself.
There are good products for livestock that have barrier protection if the animal is outside. Tetanus shots are also available over the counter for animals too, and might not be a bad idea.
