Title says it all. It's spent alot of time in the Alaskan bush and shows it. Bluing is worn in areas. Crown is good. Dings in stock. Missing the irons. 2lb trigger has been bubba'd and will fire if taken off safe. Obviously needs a new trigger assembly. Jewling on bolt seems worn. Bolt and bbl sn match.

I don't have a use for it other than if I ever get to go out west and hunt big game which is on my bucket list

I have plenty of 180gr sierra projos to feed it. Will need to acquire some primers, brass and glass.

Offered to me at $450. Pics make it look nicer than it is unfortunately

    What say you INGO?

    Offer $350
    I recently purchased a Remington 770 in .30-06.
    Synthetic stock and cheap glass.
The bolt was "broken" when I bought it on GunBroker.
It was not broken, merely disassembled.
Whoever took the bolt apart couldn't get it back together.
I paid $215 for this rifle because of the "broken bolt".
While sitting at my FFL, waiting for them to finish the background check, I reassembled the bolt. I had it working before I left the gun shop using no tools.
A 1973 model 700 should be worth $450, but not in that shape

The action alone is worth $450 if it’s rust free and functions. I’d offer $350-400 and see what they say, but wouldn’t feel taken at $450 as long as the bore’s good and it shoots. You can always upgrade the stock, trigger, and rebarrel it over time.

It all depends on what you're looking for. If you want a project rifle and the seller will come down a little, then go for it. The unsafe trigger is definitely the biggest concern. Midway has had sales on Trigger Tech triggers for a little over $100 recently, so replacing the trigger wouldn't be a huge deal or expense. It does make me wonder what else might be messed up that you cannot readily see though.

If you want a ready to hunt western rifle, I'd say there are better options than an old 700 that has had the p*** beaten out of it, ones that will end up costing you less at the end of the day.

    .
I think you'll be listing it for sale on INGO within 24 months of moving its dust-collection location to your house.

If you have no use for it, then spend the $450 on something you do.

I like these old m700's but like others have said, if you dont have a use, maybe not worth it. Someone mentioned the action is worth the 450 and I don't disagree, that being said for $200 more, you can get a blueprinted action for a build. One good point is that it is a good reason to plan a western hunting trip! If it were me, I would fork out the 450, but that being said, I have been looking for a 300 WM that speaks to me for some time. Hope the pup is doing well.

I've spent over $10k cash fighting cancer in my dog in the last 90 days. Unless you are gonna donate some money to my gun fund, take your comment and go elsewhere. That's my polite version of fatwo
If you spent 10k to save your dog that alone secured your man card for life.
Real men love there dog. He/She is your best friend after all

My apologies. I was a little harsh on that. I'm in a much better mood today. Smoker is going with a brisket on it :)

Fwiw, that gun isn't going anywhere and is affordable. Its owned by a friend. The needed glass, dies, etc all add to the package cost. Currently waiting for a nice deal on a used scope that is capable of the distance of the round itself, and then I'll pick up the gun and trigger.

For what it's worth, I just bought a 1988 winchester 70 off the estate of a close friend. Stock is beat up, misc scratches, missing follower, etc. I did not need this rifle. My hunting kit has been complete for a while. I have it functioning properly and like having the option to go after bigger or longer distance game if the opportunity pops up. Seems like most of what I buy lately is more of an "in case I need it" thing. I have no regrets getting it. I doubt you will regret getting yours either.

If the money matters right now, I might pass. Wait till you are ready to head out West and pick up a new production gun or a used gun.

If the money doesn't matter now, the gun shots well and you like a wood and steel gun, I would pick it up. Nothing wrong with having a 700 around that you can take into the woods without fear of devaluing it by use.

    NOT Necessarily??
    Many threads on U-Tube.
If you take back to the starting point of the trigger, adjust 1/16 to 1/8 a turn at a time, most can be saved.
When done, slam bolt home, rock safety back in forth, and drop on the recoil pad several times to be sure that the trigger does not release.
It works most of the time==I've did more than a few...Bill.
