I wrote a paper on this in 2010, because the Indiana Supreme Court misread their own precedents and basically eliminated the right to resist an unlawful arrest in Indiana, even though the statute required that an officer be “lawfully engaged in the execution of the officer’s duties.”

Hopefully this statute is the solution to that (erroneous) holding.

Not shooting cops, shooting a criminal while in the act of committing a crime. If the guy happens to be employed as a cop the same thing applies as with thugs: If you can't do the time, then don't do the crime.

Possible consequences will go a long way when it comes to modifying their behavior. I believe criminal liability should be added to those consequences also. It looks like A cop can be shot for criminal trespass but he cannot be prosecuted for it.

I bet very few cops will ACTUALLY get shot for this. Making them legally liable for these actions would drop the body count to even less. I would hate to kill even a rogue cop. Given a choice I would rather put him in prison so somebody else could kill him for me.

Now as far as an animal control officer is concerned I would lobby for an open season.
