    All,

Again we will be bringing Southnarcv back for his flagship ECQC class. If you haven't taken this class yet, you need to get into one. It is a great test of your current training methodologies.

    Here are the details:

    Lead Instructor: Craig Douglas (Southnarc)
Date: Nov 11[SUP]th[/SUP] – 13[SUP]th[/SUP] 2016 Friday evening, Sat and Sun
Location: Nappanee Conservation Club, Nappanee Indiana
Cost: $450 Plus $25 range fee collect the day of class

To register contact me at: tinman.in@gmail.com

A 50% deposit ($225) will be due to reserve your spot. The balance will be collected the first day of class. You must register at least 2 weeks prior to start of class. We will be limiting the class size, so register early.

The ShivWorks Extreme Close Quarter Concepts (ECQC) course is a two and a half day (20 hours) block of instruction which focuses on a multi-disciplinary approach to building functional, combative handgun skills at zero to five feet. The course is designed to instill core concepts of seamless integration and provide the platform for aggressive problem solving during a life or death struggle. A heavy emphasis is placed upon commonality of body mechanics between skill sub-sets, which means that all combative software is reinforcing. Once the student’s skill sets are initially ingrained, the participant will be stress inoculated with force on force drills utilizing marking cartridges and protective equipment.

    Topics covered include:

    Day One (4 hours):
    – Criminal Assault Paradigm
    – Unequal Initiative Events
    – Managing Unknown Contacts
    – Practical Unarmed Combat modules

    Day Two (8 hours):
    – Introduction to the components of the Combative Drawstroke
    – Building the #2 position in live-fire
    – Firing throughout the horizontal line of presentation
    – Off-hand fending positions
    – Default position
    – Basic empty hand blows
    – Theory of in-fight weapon access
    – Grounded basics

    Day Three (8 hours):
    – Challenging the potential attacker
    – Preemptive weapon access
    – Multiple attackers
    – Negotiating the F.U.T.
    – ECQ Handgun retention in holster
    – ECQ handgun retention out of holster
    – Handgun recovery
    – Handgun striking

    Weapon & Gear Class Requirements:
    – Reliable handgun
    – Minimum two (2) magazines
    – Quality holster and magazine pouches.
    – 275 rounds of ammunition
    – Heavy sweatshirt or soft body armor
    – Mouthpiece and cup
    – Seasonal weather gear
    – Ballistic Eye protection
    – Ear protection
    – Weapon lubrication and cleaning supplies.
    – Good attitude

This class is not recommended for beginning shooters and prior documented training or instructor approval is required.

Students should be relatively fit as this is a contact class. Most of the latter half of each day will be spent utilizing man marking cartridges and FIST helmets, to allow the students to gain confidence in applying their newly acquired skills against moving aggressive opponents.

    About the instructor:
Southnarc served in the US Army Rangers before entering law enforcement. He is currently the commander of an inter-agency drug enforcement task force and a SWAT Team leader on the Gulf Coast. For a number of years he did undercover drug work, resulting in a number of serious physical assaults on him. These assaults included “rip-off” robberies, much like the robberies private citizens fall victim to every day. Southnarc is one of the most analytical trainers in the business, and as a result of these incidents he made a thorough study of Pre-Assault Indicators, Weapon Access During an In-Progress Fight, Empty Hands Skills to escape from a grappling attack or multiple assailants, and more.

Plan on going hard for 2 and a 1/2 days. if you can't wrestle around, get hit, hit, shoot, and stab without dying of a heart attack, you may want to pass. We shoot in the morning on the range, the afternoon is working hands on skills, and mental games, as well as running FoF evos. Having said that, you know your limitations, you can always sit out an ego if you're gassed.

How "relatively fit"? I'm a giant fat bastard, but I've been told I'm surprisingly agile for my size.

Lots of YouTube videos, you are going to go hand to hand with two guys at the same time who are going to beat the **** out of you, bring your A game and man up, nothing different then real life so why not take the class even if you are a little heavy.

I have to say I have taken some training and this is the one class I have always wanted to take, don't know if I will make this one as I will probably travel to attend another one that is sooner.

Same for me. I am in for the Cincinnati class in May.

Heh. You're going to get both.

And ultimately, isn't it better to be a giant fat bastard who is surprisingly agile or moves well for a big man than it is to be a giant fat bastard who can barely move at all?

Coming from Rhino it was hard to be offended.

It was a sincere compliment. When a normal sized guys does things, it's a normal effort. When a big guy can do the same or better, it's impressive and cool.

Yeah, we should omit the "for a big man" or "for your size" caveat in a better world.

Along those lines, I type well . . . for a big man. I won't attend this class because I know it's way beyond anything I can do without getting hurt. Based on my observations, I think you'd be okay. It's going to be tough and sweaty for everyone who tries, so you'll be in good company.
