I'm in my'60s now and still can't grow a decent beard. It's white, baby fine, and barely hides the wrinkles and "turkey neck". I didn't have to shave until I was in my 20s and only a couple of hairs were worth the time even then.
Combat ready? LOL! I'd have to talk them to death now!

When the Persians demanded at the Battle of Thermopylae that King Leonidas of Sparta lay down his weapons he replied with the now famous phrase of defiance "Molon Labe!". This Greek phrase was mistranslated and is to this day is incorrectly understood to mean "Come and take them!"

Through contacts at the Pentagon, military history researchers empowered with this new study on the fighting effectiveness of facial hair have concluded that Leonidas was referring to their powerful beards and not the weapons when responding to the Persians. We now know that the translation for Molon Labe is "Come and shave them!"

I've been known to tactically hide food caches in my beard. That is my entire reason for having it, you've ALWAYS got to be prepared.
