I've not followed the case. As a matter of fact, I believe this is the first I've heard of it, so my entire viewpoint is based solely on this one article.
That said, while his quotes may seem a bit callous, or aloof, the fact remains he's been tried twice without conviction.
I'd say it will be pretty hard to secure a conviction now, without a major breakthrough in the investigation.
I really enjoyed his articles and other than he was charged with some crime, never knew why he stopped writing. Sad to hear it involved a "friend".
