Just saw RI 1911-A1 tactical (parkerized) asking $550.

This will be my first 1911 and Rock Island, none of my friends have shot one.

fair price? good gun for carry?

When I go to see it tomorrow anything I should look for specifically on this piece?

    Any other advice?

    Thanks!

i bought my tactical for $350 used LNIB from a forum member. yes they are nice (note i did not say the nicest ;)) guns. mine has been reliable so far and i do occasionally carry it. i will say that my RIA seems heavy, even for a 1911. ymmv.

WAY over priced. Here's a couple RIA's off FunBroker:

RIA Rock Island Armory CSP Compact .45 1911 45 : Semi-auto at GunBroker.com Tatical RIA For $425 - very nice. In fact with all the extras, THIS IS A FANTASTIC DEAL. I may even look into this one for myself

Rock Island 1911-A1 45 acp 5" LOOK 4 FREE SHIPPING : Semi-auto at GunBroker.com RIA 5" GI spec - I bought mine from this seller - $380 shipped - I like mine alot and haven't had any problems.

NOTE: RIA's are not a premium line, but rather a workhorse line of firearms - They have worked well for me, but are usually "plain jane" without all the bells and whistles. I carry a high end Springfield or Colt as an EDC, but I don't think I would worry over carrting my RIA also.

    many thanks for the advice!

sounds like if it's mint and I'm able to talk him down about a hondo it might be a ok deal but not great. any guess what parkerization generally costs? did it come from factory like that or does one usually get that done later. the ones you all mentioned i noticed you did not mention having this done. Is it even really that important on a carry piece? It's either gonna be in my armpit, sitting on my coffee table or in my safe 100% of the time.

parkerizing is factory and is well done---my shooter 1911 is a Rock Island tactical. finish is good to go for whatever you use the pistol for in my opinion.

likewise overpriced, shop around, bradis, plainfield shooting usually has them in stock at a very good price, or wait for the indy 1500 in jan.

I agree it is over priced, i have seen them at gun shows for $399.00 I have been considering getting my self, I am still researching them, and so far they seem like a good carry gun with out any bells and whistles.

In that price range I'd get a different brand. RIs should be cheaper. I've been told they are very low end as far as 1911s go. Don't have any personal experience with them though.
