Greetings! Been a lurker, first time posting.

I have a Remington Nylon 10 single shot bolt action that is one of several guns I inherited from my dad. I didn't give it much thought and kept it stored in the closet for the last 7 years until recently when I discovered it seems to be somewhat desirable. So I took it out and spent a little time with it.

I was pleasantly surprised. Feels good, very accurate and while the stock has it's share of scuffs (and sadly some Xs scratched in near the butt) it's complete, the barrel and such have a good finish and are rust free. Dad took decent care of it.

I been trying to research it to determine value but there's not much out there. The few prices I've found vary wildly. I'd like to sell or possibly trade for it.

    Any thoughts on it's value?

    Thanks!
    -Mark

I agree. Never seen a bolt action Nylon 10 , but automatics (Nylon 66) are bringing good money. That being said, I think a possibly rare bolt action might bring more (?).
Wouldn’t surprise me at all. Amazing what the nylons bring now a days considering they almost couldn’t give them away back in the day.

In my research I've found that the Nylon 10 single shot is rare with Remington having made just over 10,000. This one has a rifled 24" barrel. They also made a smooth bore in even lower numbers which I gather is the Holy Grail of the Nylon series.

I live in Franklin IN. Is there a gun shop or gunsmith that might be knowledgeable with vintage rifles I could have take a look at it? I drive hotshot and get all over the state as well as the surrounding states so I could swing by just about anywhere in Indiana.

I have no idea where to take anything anymore. I did all my gun buying and trading years and years ago except to buy a couple new hand guns. Lengals in wabash is we’re I did all my business and they have been closed for years. There is Bass and Bucks now in wabash. He has a fairly big concern going out there but I don’t know what kind of smithing service he has and that’s a good haul from you probably 125 - 140 miles at least.

What are your concerns? Cool old rifle by the way!
    Thanks, it is pretty cool.

No real concerns. When I took it to Shoot Point Blank to try it out Range Safety Officer took an interest in it, checking it out. While it appears to be in good overall condition He suggested a restoration. Can't remember his exact term, not a full on restore, but a good tear down, inspection and cleaning.

I wish my dad had left me a gun or 2. I would not even think about selling or trading it off.
I'd say this is primarily why I have a renewed interest in gun ownership. Of course 2020 and the war on 2A has really focused my attention. I've since joined NRA, GOA and become a supporter of this site.

Dad left me a few. A Berreta 12 gauge semi-auto, Winchester 30-30 lever action, Remington 700 30-06 with scope, a Marlin 22LR with scope (which is why Didn't think much of the Nylon at the time I aquired them) and a few other goodies.

Much to my surprise he also had my old 16 gauge breach-load shotgun I received for Christmas when I was 16 (now 65). I had lost track of that after moving away form home.

    Wow. Thanks for the info.

Found this info about Nylons. https://gun-data.com/remington_mod_nylon.htm
Mine is a single shot 24" barrel but not smooth bore. So based on the info here it looks like only 10,670 were made of the Nylon 10. There was a Mohawk 10C but it had a magazine.

At truegunvalue.com a smooth bore was shown to sell for $2525. Couldn't find anything on mine specifically.

The nylon 10’s of any kind are hard to get. The 24” barrel was only made one year. The thing that really hurts is the stock. I’ve got a few 24” one and a
Few 19 1/2”. Even got a 24” smoothbore. I’d say in the condition yours is in you’d be around 7-900. If the entire gun was mint you’d be in the $2500 range for a 24” barrel one. About $1000 for a mint 19 1/2” barrel

I used to use MEK to freshen up handles, knobs and pulls in the old cars and trucks. You might try it on a very small area of the stock to make sure it doesn’t melt it to bad but the dull and faded stuff in the old trucks shined up like new. MEK = Methyl Ethyl Ketone a solvent. The old stuff was Bakelite & is a lot harder than your nylon so be careful.

Thanks, I appreciate the info. Definitely gives me better idea of it’s value.

Thanks, I keep it in mind. Not sure if I want to risk making it worse but you never know.
