Looking at future endeavors wanting to make a game plan for a work bench / reloading bench.

Would one prefer a homemade butcher block top that you can put your legs underneath…. (Kinda like picture below but replace metal with 2x4’s and probably a rolling toolbox slid under for storage)

Or a bought husky work bench with all the drawers that you cannot get your legs under? (Similar to picture below)

I built frames out of 2x4's and 4x4's. For the top I used left over oak hardwood flooring. I fastened the hardwood to plywood just like you would install a typical sand and seal hardwood floor.

I made three tops this way so far. One for my garage workbench(had to use a jack to get it up on the base), one for my reloading bench and one for my safe room table.

The beauty is that if they get worn, all I have to do is sand it clean and put a couple more coats of Danish Oil on them and they are like new again.

Here is a shot of my garage one:

I have a homemade bench a fine Ingo'er gave me years ago.

If my needs change or I have to move a long distance, I would consider the toolbox.

With the toolbox (or any bench that can move), you will need a way to secure it to the wall to keep it from moving while you rock & roll

I had every intention of building my own bench with a hardwood top. Sourcing the top at a reasonable cost and getting it home became problematic so I bought this 6' Gladiator work bench instead. It is fastened to the wall studs which makes it very solid. The cabinet underneath is the base from my old loading bench that my Dad built for me about 30 yrs ago.

I use an old steel teachers/office desk I bought of Craigslist years ago. Works great for my needs

I was thinking about getting this for working on firearms. Already have the reloading bench.

Built the NRMA reloading bench many years ago when lumber was cheap:

“The design is a large, versatile bench with a full set of enclosed overhead cabinets. A National Reloading Manufacturers Association (NRMA) design, this bench requires many hours to build, but it will house all your reloading gear and provide a very stable platform for your presses. This bench was designed to be as versatile as possible to meet the needs of most reloaders. However, the bench design can easily be customized.”
I made mine a couple inches taller and modified how the center shelves opened, but otherwise mostly followed the plans.

I bought a piece of 2 1/2" butcher block from Menards and used 36" x 2" pipe to make mine. The flanges for the pipe allow for really precise leveling and I lag bolted a 2x4 to the wall for the back.

It'll be there after the house falls down... I also put 2 screws per plate on the floor into the concrete...

Here it is in full 1911 project mode...

I made my own a few times.
My buddy bought one of those Rural King wood workbenches. I was impressed with it for the cost.
It even came with a wood vise. He lined it with rubber padding and uses it to hold his firearms while working on them.

Sturdy is best for sure... 2x4 homebrew can do the job if it's sturdy (anchored to wall, etc).
It really doesn't have to look all that great, and seating high (I'm 6'2, 5'9" with the slouch) can be difficult on store bought stuff if you are particular, so home made can be customized to you on the reloading portion. 2x4 framing anchored to wall with a shelf underneath is pretty simple for a workbench if you use 3/4"+ plywood or better top
My Dillon is set on a 30" high cubicle desk of sorts I proclaimed from Monarch Beverage (1" laminated osb). I would prefer a higher setup with a bench seat, but I have limited space.
