I have a ceiling mount Reznor hanging heater I want to install in my shop but don't really want to tie it into the propane tank that serves the house. I'd like to set a 100# tank outside the shop to feed the heater. This kit is for a much smaller heater, https://www.lowes.com/pd/Mr-Heater-...UuntO10iSgf26b0AfGRoCjCMQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds will it work for my installation?

One of my plumbers said it'll work but I'm not sure if he has the experience to say it'll work based on some issues he's faced in the past.

Setting another tank outside the shop and plumbing it into the heater is no problem if you use the right equipment.

    1 gallon of LP = 91,000 BTU
    100lbs tank/4.24lbs(1 gal of LP)= 23.5 gallons
    Assume filled to 80% capacity= 18.8 gallons

    18.8 gallons x 91,000 BTU = 1,710,800 BTU per full 100# tank

80,000 BTU heater = 21 hours of continuous run time.
Doesn't the empty tank weigh 50 or so pounds?

That was my concern, thanks for confirming.

Check it out, FACTS!!!! On INGO no less. :lmfao: I'm looking at the 100 pounder as temporary until I get it permanently installed but honestly I don't think it's going to be worth the effort. I have a smaller ceiling mount already in use but due to space constraints can't simply replace it with the larger one. So I've located the big one on the opposite side of the shop and was thinking of temping it in until the plumbing/wiring could be run over to it but doesn't sound like it's really worth it. I'm not trying to keep the space warm but want to more efficiently warm it up a little when I'm playing, I mean, working out there.

My other issue is that it's an older unit so it's pilot lit instead of electronic. The boss suggested just buying a new one and selling both of the ones I currently have that way it would be electronically lit and be in a smaller package to fit where the existing one is. Gotta love it when the boss supports your hobbies.:rockwoot:

100# cylinders are DOT regulated, need to be filled by weight on a scales. Gonna have to be loaded up every time and filled at a filling station, way more money than your house tank plus the inconvenience.

I would hook it in to your existing tank or have your LP provider set another tank for the shop. 120 gallon ASME tanks are filled off the truck and is legal to set against the shop. Most providers will set them for free, avoid ones that don’t or want rent.

Most providers will charge extra for a small (less than 200gal for us) delivery but it’s nowhere near per gallon what a 100# cyl costs, if you time it with your house they might wave that or you can always up the size and fill less often or better yet just in the summer when it’s cheap
