In NYS, handguns are not only regulated to require a permit for ownership, but registered on one's handgun permit. Within NYC, to include the writer's police district of Port Washington, all firearms are similarly regulated and registered.

Handgun permits in NYS are may issue. Handgun permits in NYC city are not only shall issue, but routinely denied after a year or so of waiting for said denial. Long arms to NYC residents are also regulated in much the same manner.

Its disingenuous for this individual to argue that microstamping would have no effect upon law abiding gun owners, as law abiding individuals are already affected by a near default denial of the ability of not only ownership, but the ability of use.

These are just reasonable, common-sense laws. Surely you don't oppose them, do you? You're all reasonable, common-sense people, right? If you're against these common-sense laws, then you must not have any common sense! How unreasonable of you to against them!

One other thing I would question is the background of the actual association. I have heard some of these police associations are a smaller group of like-minded political hacks who use their titles to make it sound like all police are for the more zany quick fixes being proposed.

Some organizations are created for the sole purpose of pushing an agenda under the guise of legitimacy.

I do have two questions though:

...microstamping would not have any impact on law-abiding gun owners. ...The technology is invisible and reasonable in cost — less than $12 per gun

Doesn't $12 per gun seem like an impact to you?

If I'm not law-abiding, does this mean I don't have to pay the tax?

The NY Association of Police Chiefs is an incredibly partisan organization, the membership compromised of appointed heads of police agencies across the the state.

Such individuals either tow the line for their elected masters, or find themselves dismissed from their respective positions.

I'm all for stamping, every time my guns go bang it stamps a "." into the primer. Wouldn't have it any other way.

It's not like criminals would ever just use a dremel to remove the stamp either. After all, the criminals are good law abiding citizens, not like those crazy right wingers!
