Just curious if someone could post some pre panic prices on some different ammo? Like 5.56/223 & 7.62 can of 1000 before price, same with 9 mm and .40S&W, etc.

I never really bought bulk and just recently started watching prices, just curious.

    Thanks

Bradis had 5.56 for $434 /1000 two days after the Sandy Hook incident.
Just look at the tags in any Walmart's empty shelves....that'll give you an idea.
.40 was around $.30/round and I was buying 9mm for around $0.22/ round.

I remember buying ammo at dicks with no limit. They had sales on 9mm a lot. 10.99 a box.. Good stuff too.

$180 for 500 rounds of Federal brass case American Eagle .556 nato 55gr. That was over one year ago. You will never see prices that low again!!! that was the rock bottom price during a surplus year. From now on good brass case ammo in .556 will never go below $300 per 500 rounds and the same stuff is now selling for $400 or more for 500 rounds. if you want 1000 rounds for $200 plan on .22lr rounds. I am not being funny, this is the reality. Inflation is a ***** driven by demand and the lack of supply. feel free to pay less for the steel case wolf stuff. that stuff is not worth the damage it can cause your weapon!!

This is so wrong in so many ways. I can today buy 500 brass .223 for $275. Which is still high. It will come back down. As far as steel cases it will not damage your firearms. Some will not cycle well due to the steel case ammo often have a little lighter powder load. Steel case ammo is lower quality no doubt and little dirtier. But countless studies proove it will not harm your firearm. All ammo will come back down as soon as the misinformed quite over paying and the panic minded quit spreading false information.

BTW :welcome::welcome: to INGO you can learn a lot here!

    .34 a round for brass cased 5.56
    .22 a round for brass cased 9mm
    .21 a round for steel cased 7.62x39

This sounds about right to me. I don't buy 7.62, so I'm not sure about that one. The 556 and 9mm are right on target. Those are minimum 2011-2012 bulk prices in my prepanic buying experience.

    NATO 5.56 420 rounds $195 in November
    My buy criteria was generally:
    .22lr < 5¢ Usually got it for 4¢
    9mm < 25¢
    .380 < 30¢
    5.56 NATO < 50¢

Prices are slowly moving back to this. I picked up 9 and .380 for around 30¢ including shipping.

My husband found 5000 Federal 22lr in the 4¢ range last week (I love that guy). Appleseed, here I come!

I am going back to my roots and picking up a BB gun for the back yard. Maybe I can cast my own lead BB's. I refuse to pay those kind of prices and am throwing in the towel.

In my opinion it will be back to the pre-panic prices - or within 5% ~ 10% within 4 to 5 months or less - less depends on the speculators that bought as much as they could to resell at a profit. If they don't sell within the next month or so I think they will lose money. They will then quit buying! It will still take a few weeks to refill the distribution system. Once that is done and the regular gun owners that didn't stock before build up some stock and the new gun owners buy a few rounds, then the prices will settle and sales on ammo will be back. Just hope those that complained about us old-timers that keep a large stock of ammo will begin to build their own! I haven't bought any ammo since sometime last fall. Don't intend to until I see some bargains - and no, I won't run short for a few YEARS.

Larry, I hope you're wrong but I am afraid that you are a bit too pessimistic. The last time we had a long lasting shortage like this prices did go down but remained up more like 55% from the time before the shortage. The only saving grace this time is that retailers on the whole really HAVEN'T raised their prices at all since the shortages started. The prices that are high are those on the secondary market, not the mainstream primary market so I hope the prices may even simply remain pretty much the same as they have been all along with only the supply situation changing.

So, I am hoping all that changes is the supply here and not the prices. Time will tell. :)

It nice to see people are not buying up the .60 cent and up per round steel case .223 fmj like they were a month or so ago. This is a sign hopefully that the guys just trying to profit off of this mess are not getting as many people to go for their prices and maybe the end of this is near.
