Hark the herald Angels sing. With trumpets and brass

You can't find this type of lyric today. That last verse chokes me up evey time.

    Christ, by highest heav'n adored:
    Christ, the everlasting Lord;
Late in time behold him come,
    Offspring of the favored one.
    Veil'd in flesh, the Godhead see;
    Hail, th'incarnate Deity:
Pleased, as man, with men to dwell,
    Jesus, our Emmanuel!
    Hark! the herald angels sing,
    "Glory to the newborn King!"

Hail! the heav'n born Prince of peace!
    Hail! the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all he brings,
Risen with healing in his wings
Mild he lays his glory by,
Born that man no more may die:
Born to raise the sons of earth,
Born to give them second birth.
    Hark! the herald angels sing,
    "Glory to the newborn King!"

I couldn't pick a favorite but My Favorite Things ranks way up there. But NOT by Julie Andrews. More like this one:

Or even Andy Williams. Or Kelly Clarkson.

Added bonus: it was written the year I was born. :)

I taught small group on "Hark, The Herald Angels Sing" this past Sunday.

Charles Wesley- 1739, music by Felix Mendelssohn about a hundred years later. I lot of rich theology alluding to verses from the Old Testament all the way to Revelation. It is a spectacular song that I didn't pay attention to for a long time. However, when I really listened, it's an anthem that the coming of Christ not only provides salvation to individuals, but will eventually restore...everything! Even the version you posted omits a couple of verses that were originally in there:

    Come, Desire of Nations, come,
Fix in Us thy humble Home,
    Rise, the Woman's Conqu'ring Seed,
Bruise in Us the Serpent's Head.

    Now display thy saving Pow'r,
    Ruin'd Nature now restore,
    Now in Mystic Union join
Thine to Ours, and Ours to Thine.

    Adam's Likeness, LORD, efface,
Stamp thy Image in its Place,
    Second Adam from above,
    Reinstate us in thy Love.

Let us Thee, tho' lost, regain,
Thee, the Life, the Inner Man:
    O! to All Thyself impart,
    Form'd in each Believing Heart.

    Next week: "O Holy Night"

The best version I have ever heard. This will get a reaction...to the extent that a bunch of people have done reaction videos to it.

Gotta post this one simply because it's already topped Adele on iTunes...

And this one for the more traditional content... (and also because I like horns and B3's...oh, and blonde's, too)

Sooooo many good songs in the thread so far.
Some of mine are in my Light-o-rama Christmas light display thread.

But of course, I have many more.

I'm not sure this one would work good in my display. Too slow to keep attention.

And this one could be good, but not sure "barenaked ladies" would be "appropriate" in the introduction.
