I found this old rifle in some junk last year. The barrel was very rusty, so i took it to the wire wheel and then i could see what it was. Pics might be a bit hard to see, but you can make out the stamping. The porting of the barrel is perfect with no rust along with the bolt that i think is stainless steel. I didn't sight it in really, but it shoots very good, including the 22 shorts or whatever i put in it. Looks like someone was making a new stock and didn't finish. Anyone else have these still. I dated them from 48' to 54' is what i found. 20230219_110633.jpg 20230219_110651.jpg 20230219_110837.jpg 20230219_110912.jpg

H&R made several entry level .22's such as this over the years. I have owned a few and they all shot well.

Nothing really rare about them other than they aren't made anymore.

I am not familiar with your gun. I do have 2 old single shot .22's that I like a bunch. One is a Stevens Little Scout falling block, with no rifling. Shoots the shot shells very well. The other is a Stevens 14 1/2 falling block. My dad bought it when he was a kid, made a belt holster for it when he was a Boy Scout. Slow rounds work best in it. High velocity or hyper velocity will cause the action to open when shot. I use the Aquila Super Colibri rounds in it.

I'm not familiar with it either. I do have one old single shot .22 made by Anschutz. Actually it's 6mm Flobert, but also shoots .22 lr. It's really quiet with the Aguila Super Colibri rounds.

I haven't shot any short 22 rounds in forever and could believe how quiet they were some time i will eventually grind an sand the stock to finish it.

My Grandpa had an old single-shot Revelation .22. we divvied up the guns after he died, and that one went to my brother because he had a need for a .22. That gun had a really annoying feature where it would engage the manual safety every time you cycled the bolt, which made an already tedious gun even moreso.

For old .22s, I much prefer my Glenfield Model 25. Being magazine fed it's much more convenient to shoot, and I can still single-load it for the kids if I want. IMO, the single-shot designs were self-limiting without a real justifiable purpose.

That said, the gun in the OP looks like a fun project. A bit of sanding on that stock and a re-blue could make it a nice little plinker. It makes a gun your own when you've put some work into restoring it after it's been used and abused.

Had to take a look at the inside. I was wrong, it is single round loading. There is a spring loaded plate the round goes on and the bolt pushes it into chamber while pushing the plate down outa the way while going into battery.
