Had a Savage Mk II in .17 HM2 a while back. It had the extremely skinny barrel and was very light but it shot very well. I've not had a Savage .22lr but every other Savage I have, rimfire and centerfire, is very accurate. I suspect you'll have to experiment with ammo but it should do well. Prices? I don't know about used but NIB in .22lr are available for well under $200.

I love my Savage. It is very accurate with any ammo I feed it. Values vary depending on whether it has te accutrigger and any accessories that may come with it (spare magazines, scope, sling, bipod, etc). I don't know that I've seen JOB for "well under $200" in a while. I'd be content to pay $150 for one in pretty good shape. I'd be real happy to get one for $100.
