Image of Louisville, KY taken while driving on the bride to get to Openrange.
Blind luck that the shutter clicked between girders.

Directions: I65 South to the Kennedy Bridge. Stay in the right lane because you will be
exiting at the end of the bridge. Watch for the split right after the bridge because you
need to take the exit for 64/71 (the left branch). Follow the signs for 71N Cincinnati
and continue on 71N to Exit 14, Crestwood/PeWee Valley (Hwy 329). The rest of the trip
is well marked with Brown (attraction) signs put up by the state. You'll turn left on
Lagrange Road (Hwy 146), then left on Cross Keys Blvd. Openrange is tucked back behind
various other establishments, but continue on Cross Keys several hundred feet and you'll
soon see the well marked building.

Openrange - Pro Shop / Gun Shop / Paintball Shop / Paintball Range / Indoor Rifle and Pistol Ranges!
Openrange has been awarded a 5 STAR RATING by the National Shooting Sports Foundation.
When you first walk in the door at Openrange, unless you're completely jaded, you will
be utterly amazed! It's a beautiful retail store. It looks brand new - right out of
the box! (It's been there 6 years according to staff). I don't think there was a spot
of dust anywhere. Where do I start?! The list of goodies seems endless! There are cases
and cases of firearms of all sorts, big guns on the wall, flashlights, Kitanica and
Blackhawk tactical clothing, tons of preparedness supplies, more knives than there are
in some knife stores... especially "Benchmade" knives, paintball accessories ...

    and .... Concealed Carry Purses!
The quality of these purses is outstanding. According to the staff, they will not stock
cheap purses, only the best (Coronado Leather).

... But wait, we're here for the gun range. To get to the range, once you you walk in
the door, turn right and head straight back. But as you walk through the Pro Shop,
before you get to the range sign-in area, you'll see that they have a paintball arena
off to the left. You could do a whole review on that area. we watched some boys go at
it and it looked like a blast! (There is an upstairs, public viewing area for the arena).
I'm hoping someday my boys may get a chance to try this out. When you get over paintball
and finally get back to the range sign-in, you'll see a wall of guns and rifles that you
can rent if you like - including machine guns! The sign-in process is very professional.
You'll be photographed and you'll have to sign a waver. You can pay up front, or you
can leave a credit card any pay when you're done. This is good if you need more ammo,
or more range time than you anticipated or if you ask the range help for a new target
(one is included with the range fee, you can bring your own too). Before we get to more
details about the range, you'll notice something at about this point. The employees here
are simply THE nicest you'll ever meet in a store like this.

General Manager Brendan Montgomery made us feel welcome at Openrange!

The associates are not commissioned and their goal seems to be to make you feel at ease
and to take care of your needs. I've heard horror stories of how some gun shops treat women.
You know, talk down to you and point you to the revolvers, "because they're not complicated."
The sales associate who worked with me, knew I wasn't familiar with guns - and yet, he was
showing me a semi-automatic! (see the video below).

    What to expect:
After sign in you'll be directed to the right of the counter to a waiting area. You will
wait until a range hand comes out to escort you in. You will be directed to don hearing
and eye protection before going back. In the range area, you will see a clean, well swept
range. The range consists of 12 (25yd) Pistol bays, 5 (100yd) Rifle Lanes, 2 Beginner Lanes
(low noise environment for teaching and learning). The booths or "stations" are big enough
to hold two people (that's how we were able to take the pictures safely), but you wouldn't
both be shooting at the same time. The partitions between the booths cuts down on the shock
waves from others shooting (as does all the sound proofing in the room) and it stops the
flying brass cases from other shooters. We were up against the wall (which was good) but
the empties kept boucing back at us. But again, that's because there were two of us in
there and the shooter stood close to the wall.

The range uses "Mancom® world class interactive programmable targetry."
It was easy to operate and the range staff showed us how to use it before we started.

We had a great time! I don't have much gun experience - I've shot some of my husband's
guns at his dad's house years ago, and I've tagged along at other gun shops, but I've
seen enough to say this has got to be as good as it gets for indoor shooting! I played
around with two different .22 LR guns - the Ruger SR22 and the Ruger 22/45 LITE. Then
I was made to shoot a Ruger SR1911. That was crazy! (see video). After leaving the range,
we must have stayed in the pro shop for at least an hour. with my new-found experience,
I was able to talk a little about what I thought I needed in a gun (a smaller grip, not
a heavy trigger, and not so much KABOOM). As I mentioned before, the sales staff were
awesome! The video below shows some of the interaction. I feel like I took a mini-class!

Speaking of classes, Openrange offers the manditory classes for Kentucky residents to get their carry
permits, as well as other courses for beginners.

If you're a shooter in the Southern Indiana area, you simply MUST go here.
Yes, you are going to pay some money. But this place is like Disney World for gun nuts!

This is an excellent review! :rockwoot: Very detailed and well put together. I hope you let open range know about it, they could use it as a promotional video.

Combination thread bump and thanks for the review. With the new east end bridge, This range is only about 20 minutes from my house in Jeffersonville.

Has anyone from INGO been here recently or taken classes there? I would really like to hear some more current feedback.

    Thanks.

Just got back from visiting OpenRange, and it was a fantastic experience! Still can't compare it to other indoor ranges since this is the first one I have visited, but is an entirely different world compared to Knob Creek, where I have done most of my previous shooting.

Don't get me wrong. Knob Creek has been a very positive experience for me, but as a pistol range it is limited by the minimum distance and the need to wait until a cease fire to set up or change targets.

The staff at OpenRange was every bit as friendly and professional as they appear on the website. I spent a few minutes talking to One of their instructors (The one from the intermediate pistol vid on their website) and was impressed by his helpful attitude and professional demeanor. He recommended their $50 Women's handgun seminar for my wife when I mentioned she was still a bit nervous, but wanted to learn more. Looks like a great deal for the price. I'll be sure to post a review if she decides to take the class.

I spent just under $30 for a half hour of range time and 50 rounds of 9mm and enjoyed being able to challenge my accuracy over the full length of the 25 yard pistol range just by pressing a few buttons to move the target.

I will definitely be going back with my wife for one of their 2 for 1 'date night' Fridays.
