I'm getting geared up for an upcoming 3-gun match at Rockcastle and I've seen some things online about people opening their loading ports on their shotguns to help speed up reloads. I decided to give it a try on my stoeger 3000 and here's how it turned out. I didn't go too aggressive with it. Just some light filing, beveling, and polishing. I used basic small, flat and round, hand files and 800 grit sandpaper for polishing. I taped off where the trigger guard stops so I didn't go too far back and really took my time with the files. I don't recommend doing this with a dremel, itd be way too easy to take off too much accidentally. I shaved the front portion down some to open it a little, then then flared the sides just a little, and rounded out the sharper edges. While I was at it I filed a larger, feed ramp leading into the tube by widening it and taking back more towards the opening. It's a fun project, and if done right looks really good and can help save your thumbs from the sharp edges and speed up reloads. I could see bird hunting getting a lot of being it from this as well. Anyways, here's some pics. You'll notice in the first pic what the one side looked like originally. Oh and I forgot to mention, it may be obvious, but if your serial number is located Dow. By the port like mine,be extra cautious when removing metal.
