Wow. That is damn cool! A RMR on a Garand. I NEED one.

I'm not sure how I'd feel about that. I could see it on an M1A for sure, but a Garand? I dunno...

I did like this quote which is totally INGO-appropriate though...

"but when you slap a red dot on a steel-and-wood fighting rifle it’s suddenly like pineapple on pizza or beans in chili."

It does look cool, but I am a purist. I like my Garands they way they were originally made.
So when I buy a .308 M1 Garand and slap one on its ok then? Its already been violated with a new barrel and block. What's one more assault? :):

Should mention that they did make some sage stock conversions for the Garand.

Combine this with a BM59 magazine conversion... and a 308 barrel...

Well you might as well have bought a Sage stock M14, but it can be done.

I'm no Fudd, and I realize that there are enough Garands that collectability isn't a huge concern, but I go between thinking that a red dot on one isn't so bad and thinking it makes a dang good rifle even better, and wanting to kick a puppy because there's just some things you don't mess with, and modernizing a Garand is right up there.

I'm torn. I kinda like it, but it ain't for me.

I've always wanted an M1A Scout Squad, but they're stupid expensive and I knew I could get another Garand from the CMP for half the price. I ordered one with the idea of installing an ultimak rail and a scope on it kind of tugging at the back of my mind, but when it got here I just couldn't bring myself to do it. Honestly, the more I shoot it, the more I realize that the iron sights on the Garand are so good, optics don't really add that much benefit, and it's just extra bulk and complexity on the gun.

I've done it, and it makes the rifle SO much easier to ring steel with at distance.

Easy to remove, and doesn't require any permanent alterations to weapon.

Mine needs a much better scope, but even with the cheap one on it, it is just a world of difference in the ability to actually reach out and touch things.
