Music editing programs?

Does anyone have or recommend a music editing program for my computer. I am trying to take songs and shorten them to like 10 second clips so I can make ringers for my phone, thats it. I don't need to add effects or anything, just shortening the songs.

And on the tech side, I can use music from my music player on my phone as ringers, so I don't need a ring maker program also.

Audacity is GPL (free) and will do all you want and a whole lot more! You can take clips from a song, and fade them in/out so they don't abruptly end as ringtones, and export them in pretty much any format you want.

I use Goldwave (free trial) to edit audio. Not sure if it does ringtones or not.

Audacity plus the LAME mp3 encoder is what I use.
