I took Benny with me to Mounds State Park this afternoon. We found Chicken of the Woods & Lions Mane. I’m hoping the rain this morning will help spur along the Maitakes this coming week…

I got a whole some Honeys last week. Wasn’t sure how to prepare them but I heard to cook them or even boil them for 15 to 20 minutes prior to eating.
I did that and then ran out of time that evening so they’re in the freezer. Ha ha

I sauteed the test honey mushroom in coconut oil, like a gent in a YouTube said he prefrered. It did't fry it near 15 minutes, but it was certainly done. It was edible, but I didn't care for the flavor much.

Had a pretty good handfull last night, diced a bit and sauteed in butter with onions and garlic. ~12 minutes or so, then added eggs and cheese. These tasted great. Butter IS the sautee fat for mushrooms.

Little PSA in the honey mushrooms.

I finished the last of the honeys I had. Probably should have used half or only ate half of the mushroom sauce I made from them?

D178DFB3-38A7-42DE-8F1A-23F9F147EDD5.png It’s been 3 days since I was out hunting. Today I found 3 Maitakes just popping up from a tree that produced last year. This gives me an idea of the size I should keep an eye out for on other potential locations.
Hopefully no one else has their eye on them…
