Other than a basic class, like the Red Cross First Aid class, one needs to be very careful about the liability and duties with many of the other courses.

If one receives certification and accepts a post, they are usually covered by their employers liability ins.

If one takes some basic, non-IDHS certified courses (Red Cross/AHA CPR or BLS, etc.) for skills that end up being used for emergencies they are protected under Indiana's "good samaritan" laws.

Indiana protects responders who provide "emergency care" at any level.

I personally don't bother with worrying about liability in a civil court if I use my training to provide emergency care to anyone, anywhere. Would this person, or person's family, rather I stood and did nothing? Take into account I don't do anything I've not been trained to do. That's irresponsible. So don't ask for any surgeries from me you'll regret later.
