    10X^2-12X-10

Factor this trinomial. I have seen allot of post on the web about how math is easier today than it was in the past. How many of you can do this without cheating?

I don't think the way it is written it is really a facoting problem. Consolidate "x" terms, then if you want factor out the negative.

    10x-12x-10=-2x-10=(-1)(2x+10)

If you want it factored do you want 10x^2-12x-10?

There's nothing to factor there. You factor an equation, and those have = in them somewhere. As written it can only be simplified.

    Simplifying
    10X2 + -12X + -10

    Reorder the terms:
    -10 + -12X + 10X2

Factor out the Greatest Common Factor , '2'.
    2(-5 + -6X + 5X2)

    Final result:
    2(-5 + -6X + 5X2)

This problem was easy enough to do in your head in a couple seconds. You don't need to cheat. If you can't do it in your head, write it down and you see that after you factor out a 2 you've got nowhere else to go.

Sepe the point wasn't for me to get the answer. It was to see if all the post online about math being harder back then being true.
