    If your firearm is nickel plated, the nickel is bonded to a layer of copper. So, ideally, you'll want to avoid chemicals that react with copper (like Hoppe's 9).

    While it is a great lubricant, cleaner and protector, do not use Ballistol on any plated firearm, or so I've read. Ballistol is so good getting into cracks and crevices, that it can get under plating and lift it off.

    Hoppes gun oil or CLP. Just be careful with the Hoppes No.9 gun cleaner, harsh on nickel i've read.
    I've got a nickle S&W 19 purchased way back in the late 70's. That's about all the had back then. Not visual problems at all. My "blued" 19 had problems pitting on the back strap. Couldn't control it.
