I have a Llama 1911 IX-D. I am considering keeping only the frame, slide and magazine, and replacing all other parts with Wilson Combat parts.

Has anyone here "built" a 1911 before? What type of problems will I run into?

My goal is to turn this into a reliable defensive pistol. Is this goal possible? Or will this "Frankengun" be riddled with problems?

As a side note, if it doesn't work, I will be left with several spare parts for my other 1911, so No big deal.

My buddy built himself a 1911, and so did his brother. He said it takes alot of file work, but its alot of fun.
He laughs when I say I "built" a ar15, aka the lego gun.

I asked him about the llama's myself, and he said the llamas are slightly off spec than the standard 1911, therefor not a good base gun for modification.

Figure I will give it a shot anyway... If it doesn't work, I guess I will be "forced" to buy a Wilson Combat slide and frame :rockwoot:

if you are wanting to build a quality frankengun, start with a quality reciever, as this will be the base for the overall quality of the gun.... a crappy barrel bushing is way worse than a loose or out of spec frame....

buildint a 1911 is not HARD perse, just take you time as most parts will have to be carefully fitted, remove to much metal and you may as well buy a new part because it CAN cause issues.... there is a HUGE amount of recourses on the web to help you along the way so you should be in the dark during any part of the build.

i built my 1911 off of an essex arms frame. i love it, wasn't horribly expensive either. it has colt, wilson combat, and some other brands of parts in it. it looks awesome and shoots very well too.

also, i would love to take your spare parts off your hands!
