Back in the day (I'm thinking '94 or '96 here) the length limit was 6".

When I got my new 1998 Criminal Code book for college in that year, all length limits had been wiped.

I really appreciate the recommendations of everyone. In perusing the CRKT knives I think I might have found a winner of blade style I like and what should be comfortable in my hand. Looks like I'll be trying to find a CRKT M21™ Carson Folder G10 with the non serrated edge at the next gun and knife show.

Why has no one mentioned the Gerber Fairbairn/Applegate combat folder with a 4.5 inch blade? That knife is just about the smoothest opening knife I have ever had the opportunity to have. My son, a fireman/paramedic, uses the one I gave him a few years ago over the others like CRKT due to its smooth one-handed operation. They might not be produced any longer, but I still see them for sale. It is much better than the SOG Pentagon Elite. Just my 2 cents, however.
