L1A1 mag catch. Help

I have L1A1 with a Hess reciever. It is metric I have metric mags. I can seat the mag just fine and it will not come out.
However on the first round with any mag I have, the rear of the mag drops.
I think it is the mag catch spring. Any one have any thoughts or knowledge of this problem.
