Most of the threads in this forum are very negative. They are informative and I am thankful for them. INGO has a way of breaking most stories before the media, especially if it is firearms related. However, most of the stories are kind of downers. It's not anyone's fault. It is simply a legislative trend that is not very favorable for pro-2A people, like ourselves.

So, with all that being said, why don't you take a second and skim through Illinois laws on "weapons".

Illinois General Assembly - Illinois Compiled Statutes

I know most of you are going to think, "Forget that communist state, that's why I live in Indiana!" but, you after even skimming over the law, you will soon realize, just how good we have it.

    (9) Carries or possesses in a vehicle or on or about his person any pistol, revolver, stun gun or taser or firearm or ballistic knife, when he is hooded, robed or masked in such manner as to conceal his identity; or

That's right, if you have a "ballistic knife", are wearing a hooded sweatshirt (or robe), with the hood up, you can be arrested for a felony in Illinois...

    Good reminder Kick.
So true the negativity. I'm guilty as much as anyone.

Indiana has it pretty good, but never should we get complacent or never stop striving for making individual rights more available.

Psychos in government office is what will get us in a situation like ILL and CAL.

Yes there is some positive to be had. Especially if you compare IN to some of the more communist orientated states.

I have said it before and I will say it again. Having lived on the east coast, mid west and west coast, we are fortunate here in IN to have some of the best gun shops in the country. I can only think when I read some of the threads *****ing about gun shops here that the people have had little interaction with gun shops in other states. We have some good ones that are competing with each other making them even better.

I have to observe both sides of the coin as both are equally valid. I am thankful that we have it better than many others. That does not, however, change the fact that anything short of full recognition of the Second Amendment is not acceptable and should not be accepted.

NY and CA should both be tied for first sir. This state literally is hell, from it's draconian laws to its' oppressive cost of living and taxes.

Don't get me wrong, NY itself is a beautiful place. Upstate you have mountains, forests, ample hunting and camping grounds, and all manner of ways for sportsmen to enjoy themselves. I also think everyone should see/visit NYC at least once. Aside from being America's iconic city, it is an astounding place. Every culture, every cuisine, every art, all a $10 metrocard (subway ticket) away. Twenty four hours a day, three hundred sixty five days a year, it's a vibrant and humming place.

Visit, take pictures, have fun, then leave.

In the spirit of this thread's real point, some NY Laws for you:

This one bugs me, for obvious reasons..

    NY Penal Code said:
265.01 Criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree.
A person is guilty of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth
    degree when:
    (1) He or she possesses any firearm, electronic dart gun, electronic
stun gun, gravity knife, switchblade knife, pilum ballistic knife, metal
knuckle knife, cane sword, billy, blackjack, bludgeon, plastic knuckles,
metal knuckles, chuka stick, sand bag, sandclub, wrist-brace type
slingshot or slungshot, shirken or "Kung Fu star"; or
    (2) He possesses any dagger, dangerous knife, dirk, razor, stiletto,
imitation pistol, or any other dangerous or deadly instrument or weapon
with intent to use the same unlawfully against another; or
    (3) He or she knowingly has in his or her possession a rifle, shotgun
or firearm in or upon a building or grounds, used for educational
purposes, of any school, college or university, except the forestry
lands, wherever located, owned and maintained by the State University of
New York college of environmental science and forestry, or upon a school
bus as defined in section one hundred forty-two of the vehicle and
traffic law, without the written authorization of such educational
    institution; or
    (4) He possesses a rifle, shotgun, antique firearm, black powder
rifle, black powder shotgun, or any muzzle-loading firearm, and has been
    convicted of a felony or serious offense;
    or
    (5) He possesses any dangerous or deadly weapon and is not a citizen
    of the United States; or
    (6) He is a person who has been certified not suitable to possess a
rifle or shotgun, as defined in subdivision sixteen of section 265.00,
and refuses to yield possession of such rifle or shotgun upon the demand
of a police officer. Whenever a person is certified not suitable to
possess a rifle or shotgun, a member of the police department to which
such certification is made, or of the state police, shall forthwith
seize any rifle or shotgun possessed by such person. A rifle or shotgun
seized as herein provided shall not be destroyed, but shall be delivered
to the headquarters of such police department, or state police, and
there retained until the aforesaid certificate has been rescinded by the
director or physician in charge, or other disposition of such rifle or
shotgun has been ordered or authorized by a court of competent
    jurisdiction.
    (7) He knowingly possesses a bullet containing an explosive substance
    designed to detonate upon impact.
    (8) He possesses any armor piercing ammunition with intent to use the
    same unlawfully against another.
Criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree is a class A misdemeanor.

I mean seriously, because I'm gonna go on a deadly rampage with a Pietta replica colt 1858. I'll just call time out while I spend 12 minutes reloading.

    NY Penal Code said:
265.03 Criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.
A person is guilty of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree when:
    (1) with intent to use the same unlawfully against another, such person:
    (a) possesses a machine-gun; or
    (b) possesses a loaded firearm; or
    (c) possesses a disguised gun; or
    (2) such person possesses five or more firearms; or
    (3) such person possesses any loaded firearm. Such possession shall
not, except as provided in subdivision one or seven of section 265.02 of
this article, constitute a violation of this subdivision if such
possession takes place in such person's home or place of business.
Criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree is a class C felony.

    NY Penal Code said:
265.04 Criminal possession of a dangerous weapon in the first degree.
A person is guilty of criminal possession of a weapon in the first
    degree when such person:
    (1) possesses any explosive substance with intent to use the same
unlawfully against the person or property of another; or
    (2) possesses ten or more firearms.
Criminal possession of a weapon in the first degree is a class B felony.

There're plenty of other idiotic laws here, but those are pretty much in line with the OP.

We may have it better here in Indiana than in other states, BUT we will be under CONSTANT pressure to make our laws mimic the more restrictive states.

And those more restrictive states will apply constant pressure to the Federal government to make their laws more restrictive too.

Which means we must remain forever vigilant.
