    Also, when looking at generators, REMEMBER, the rating they show on the title is the SURGE rating.
    Such as a 2kw generator is 2kw for a surge. Only about 1.6kw nominal.

    So, if you need 500 watts, you don't want a 500 watt generator.
    Look on the specs. Should tell you surge and nominal. Overrate it a bit, you don't want to run it 100 percent capacity.
    I'd look for maybe a 750 to 1 kw nominal rating.
    At least for 500 watt use.

    60-65dB is laughter; 50-60dB is a quiet office; 50-65dB is quiet conversation; 70dB is a vacuum cleaner or hair dryer; 75dB is a dishwasher; and 80dB is city traffic noise or a garbage disposal.

    Champion makes a 2000 watt (surge) generator that is a good alternative ($450) to the Honda and Yamaha units.
    OP, you defiantly want to run the engine with that big inverter, I know it's too late now but the inverter should be sized to the load.
