Awhile ago, I asked some friends that were cops about ignoring no gun signs on businesses. They say if spotted and ASKED to leave, you leave without a fuss but if refused to leave, you are trespassing and you can get arrested if you further refuse to leave when cops show up. Legally, this would include places that are not by law prohibited from carrying with guns like banks, college campuses, etc.

I'm not a lawyer but since it's not strictly prohibited by law the most the cops can do is escort him off the premises or arrest him if he refuses to go. Does that sound right to you Kirk?

Since when is it illegal to carry in a bank? Or on a college campus? It's not illegal in Indiana, as far as I know. Sounds like some of your cop friends could be looking at a lawsuit in the future if they act on their "knowledge".

IANAL but a bar owner told me his patrons cannot be charged with trespassing unless they are on "the list". The first incident can put you on "the list," the second can land you on jail. If true, I wonder if it's the same for ignoring "no guns" signs?

A fine means he was convicted, if he was convicted it was not "erased" off his record. Even if "expunged" it can still be found.

    I want the cause number.

I want even convicted, only a victim of circumstance. Even got all my "stuff" back and the arrest record still showed up one time when I was renewing my handgun license.

Kirk wants the CAUSE number. Cause numbers are standard among jurisdictions in the state and identify all the things he mentioned earlier. CASE numbers are agency specific and are only a reference number to a particular report.

    It's like xerox or photocopy.

It is "cause number", court jargon, but we know what you mean when you say "case number", police jargon (case numbers refer to pooollleeece reports, TCSD 14-XXXX, ISP 14-XXXXX or LPD 14-XXXX).
