I'm sure this has been covered, I searched but couldn't find anything that I need

With my 2011 taxes I'm getting a home security system.

    Here's what I'm looking at:
    Live in an apartment
1 door, 2 Windows, plus 1 small window in the basement that won't open and a trap door that leads to the residence above me ( its boarded up but is still like to get it wired)
    1 bed room

    No landline

    I want it monitored
Have an android phone so if the company has an app that would be awesome
    Any ideas for good companies

That's funny, with my 2011 taxes I'm getting a bigger police state and a nation that is deeper than debt.

What form do you have to fill out to get a home security system instead?

    I use this system.

I wasn't concerned about monitoring. We use it mainly at night when we are sleeping. You can add many accessories to this piece. Its all wireless. They do make a dialer, that could call your cell phone or 911..who ever. Scratch the dialer since you don't have a land line. Sorry didn't think that one out completely. So if you MUST have monitoring i guess this won't work for you. Monitoring runs at a cost, which is why I am only concerned about when WE are home. This system is very loud btw.

Well, so far so good with Vivint for me. Lots of options for cameras, doors, locks, etc, and you can monitor and change everything remotely using your smartphone, even view your cameras. I just installed it, so I can't tell you I have a long history or experience with them, but they might be worth a try. Vivint.com to see their systems.

If you think you might try them, PM me...both you and I would get a small price break if you are referred by an existing customer.

Might try PMing VUPDBlue...I remember him being very knowledgeable about security systems.
IIRC he has done this in the past. A little FYI though, I don't want to speak on his behalf but he is pretty busy these days so don't be offended if he doesn't get back to you in a while.:yesway:

    good thread.

My friend owns "Peace of Mind Security Specialists" 6901 E. 10th St 317-351-4238. They are an ADT dealer. Had them alarm every window and door in the house...all wireless sensors. It is monitored via a cellular back-up rather than a land line. Check them out.

i would still recomend checking with your landlord. the alarm company may want their permission to install such devices. also they landlord may want to be informed incase they want to check in on the place or have to do emergency work.

We use Guardian for my mom who has Alzheimer's. We have cameras in her main living areas and in front of both doors. We can monitor the cameras online. We don't have Guardian watching the cameras at this time. It's about $50 a month for the service. The picture quality varies and isn't always as clear as I would like it to be. Guardian customer service has always been helpful. She's had the service for a couple years. I think she had to have broadband and a land line to hook it up
