I was looking around for a knife strop, and didn't really find what I wanted...so I made one.
I started off with a 1x5" piece of local black walnut, planed it down to 3/4".
I drew on my design and the band saw brought it down to a 2.5 x 20" paddle.
After a quarter inch round-over in the router and a lot of sanding later, it was time for leather.
I cut a 14" long piece of 2.25" leather, rounded some corners, and ran a leather edger on all sides. After that i burnished the edges with a glass and prepped the wood and leather for glue. It was recommended that I use rubber cement for wood to leather, so after getting a few good whiffs of it I spread it out on the bonding surfaces.
That cement set up pretty much instantly so it's a good thing I nailed it straight on the first go.
I cleaned up any extra glue and applied a single coat of oil based stain.
When my diamond polish comes in I'll be able to see if there's anything in my teeth with the edge of my knife.
