Presumably Hamas did not think this would topple Israel, so they're hoping to stir up Israel and then benefit from public opinion? But what is the timing here? Seems to have come out of nowhere.

Could this be Hamas' Tet Offensive moment?
Only thing I can think of, is after a bit, they will cry about the Israeli response, and think that maybe the UN will disband Israel.
    :dunno:

I was discussing this with a friend today and we both agreed: Israel had better do all the butt kicking it can possibly do now because the pressure to ease up will come quickly and be intense.

They may have overplayed their hand hitting that festival full of non-Israelis. Killing and kidnapping citizens of countries that have supported you is not really a good idea.
Terrorists have often been known to do things counter to "winning" people to their side.

They don't usually push away those that are supporting them though. Maybe Iran has promised to cover any lost money from the West, but it seems like an unforced error. If they had stuck to Israelis, it would have made it harder on Israel.
