Florida hog hunting trip

Spoiler alert…. No hogs were harmed during the making of this trip

My son and I had the opportunity to go to a family members propert in Florida to hunt hogs, we didn’t see any but heard them rooting I. The files and woods at night.





saw a ton of turkey , squirrels and two peacocks among other wild life like deer, armadillos and gopher turtles, so I think next year will be a turkey hunting trip for spring break

We did t have money for a good ground blind so made our own and it worked great, used T posts, zip tie and Camo burlap.




Did a lot of shooting

Found a really cool archery shop Jim’s Archery and Army Surplus Store, within five minutes Jim had me shooting his competition bow and acting like we were old friends

Sat in the blind a lot

Hot up Bass Pro





Ate at a cool local place called MoJo’s


Cooked a lot

And headed back to God country but first stopped at Buckies

10 or 12 years ago a guide hunt was about 200.00, 99.9% success rate. Was worth it. That was 1 night lodging and 3 meals.

Did you go out at night? Everywhere I’ve hunted the hogs are 95% nocturnal, so odds go up tremendously after dark. Thermal rules, but even with flashlights you’ll see quite a few. Otherwise you gotta figure out where they’re laying up during the day and jump ‘em.

Kudos to you for spending quality time with your son, and Don’t give up! And if you have family property, sounds like you’ll have more opportunity?

I got the opportunity to watch Big Daddy Don Garlitz run in person at the NHRA national drags at Indy back in 1976.
I got passes to go into work areas and saw more or less everything.
Quite impressive to a 17 year old.

Try a spot light. If they’re not pressured much they’ll stick around for a shot.

If you get a chance in the future, find water, keep the wind in your face, and start walking. Hogs will tolerate a lot if they don’t smell anything.
