Bolt gun all day long! Personal opinion i like the cz rifles the best. I have a couple 452 scouts for my kids that i would love to have threaded and a 455.. also have a tikka t1x in a 16" barrel and it shoots as good as the cz. I still like the way the cz is built and honestly i prefer the scout over the bigger ones. The ruger seems to be a good gun for the money. The bolt gun with a sub sonic does make a guy giggle for sure

As @Pepi said, if you are really going all in shoosh mode with subsonic ammo the semi autos will be picky at best. Lack of oompf to cycle them. I find i have the most fun however, running standard velocity cci on my M&P15-22...

Winchester Wildcat for me, like a 10/22 but more plastic. They also make a bolt action version, the Winchester Xpert was released not too long ago. If you want cost-effective and lightweight, those two aren't bas options.
