Was thinking of getting an event together this summer to promote OC. Something like a roadside clean-up, help with cleaning a couple community parks etc.. Any ideas would be great. We could do 1 in each county maybe. I would like this to be a public project that would make it something positive. Let me know. Thanks :rockwoot:

I'd be up for this. Can I suggest we look at contacting a Moose Lodge or similar? I'm not a member at one (but would like to).

Not sure about a roadside cleanup... isn't that what convicts do? :D

No, seriously.. on principle I'd be in.

I don't know how receptive the City would be, but something like this?

That's midweek. I don't know how many folks could attend that. I know I requested the 28th off for the Meet and Shoot and my boss will probably have me working that week.

How about Lake Station? :D ***

*** The news today said that Lake Station former Police Chief has been sitting on a bunch of LTCH applications from over 4 years ago.

Those are both great ideas. If anyone would like maybe we could adopt a stretch of highway between valpo and merrillville. I could talk to the Valpo police chief and see where he stands on the issue if we wanted to do a park in valpo. Thanks for the replies and possible interest.

What's the Chief in Valpo got to do with anything? It's not like we're going to be breaking the law.
    "911, what's your emergency?"
"OMG, OMG, there's people with guns stealing all the trash"

    Maybe in Hammond.</purple>

I'd agree, keep the chief out of it. I doubt anyone would pay any attention to us if we were picking up trash... I'd be up for it but not necessarily picking up litter whatever.

I'd prefer something a little ... I dunno ... the city takes in property taxes to clean up trash. Why are we doing it for free?

How about something with a more human aspect. Give the newspaper something to write a few lines about and some pictures:
"Community spirited [insert name of what/who we are] does [insert action]"

I suggest St. John. Bill B. could be the liaison since he already has a working relationship with Chief Frego.

I'll be watching this thread to see what develops.

Hey Bill B we should all go OC to this event!
    http://www.lakecountyfishandgame.org/lilcalfest.html

I'm sure your mayor would LOVE it!

BTW it is OK to carry while on a boat in the river????
I don't recall anything that says NO.

It's $45 to rent a "boat" to do this trip or bring your own. Looks rather interesting.
It's on a SAT so it won't interfear with the M&S which is a SUN in MAY.

You know what I look like, do you think I would paddle a freaking boat for ten miles? Not on your life.
They do have a trash pickup @ Oxbow park though...

Well you can do the trash pickup then. Me I think I'll try the boat thing. I emailed the coordinator with some questions regarding the event.

Relay for Life is more of a walk. At least the ones I've participated. They want at least one person from the team on the track at all times. Switch people as often as necessary.
    Overnight event.
The one imy boy scout troop participates in, is at Lake County Fairgrounds, sometime in June, I'd have to look up the date.

That could actually work. We could collect sponsorship from the people on here and people at work etc. etc. and OC at the same time. Double whammy...

assuming the organisers aren't anti gun or w/e.
