I find it better to just have a huge extra pantry of stuff we use, bought in bulk from Sam's. or canned ourselves. It is always rotated.

Then I have buckets of rice, beans, pasta, salt, and spices.

Short term event, I am covered with food we always eat. Long term, I am alive.

I've been collecting cases of MRE's and bottled water. Some canned goods and gatorade mixes.
