I live in California. Last week l learned of the unplanned retirement of my physician of the past 42 years.

Okay; time to find a new Family Physician.

The unexpected problem l’ve found in the last 24 hours is that there are no doctors, within a 50 mile radius of us, who are accepting new patients.

Are you seeing doctor shortages in Indiana?

In Bloomington, the non-profit hospital was taken over by Clarion Health ( I believe) which was given a license by IU to become IU Health. It ****ing sucks. Most of the doctors in town are part of the IU health care system and you may wait up to 6 months or longer to see a doctor as a new patient.

I just changed primary care physicians. From the list of doctors accepting new patients it did not appear there was any issue here in Elkhart County.

Doctor my eyes have seen the tears.
And the slow parade of years.

Had my doctor for years and he just retired on OCT 31 2023. He will be replaced but his replacement has not been named and my appointment in the future was rolled back 30 days in March till April.

Went through the same thing, except that the only doctor in the same practice accepting new patients also left the practice before my next appointment, so had to go through the process all over again. Tough finding a "good" PCP with experience who will also not retire before I do. It was slim pickins but so far I'm satisfied with my choice. Now that I think of it, I've had 7 docs retire on me over the years.

I’ll add that we DO have the option to continue with our doctor’s clinic partners, for a price.

Several years ago their partnership decided to go with a nationally organized group and in the process became a “concierge” group. Any of their patients who could not afford the $2,700/patient annual fee were allowed to continue with their primary physician at no charge, but now that he’s leaving we would have to change to one of their other doctors, and pay for membership.

This $2,700 annual fee is not for “services”, it merely entitles you to immediate access to your physician 24/7/365 and one “free” physical examination a year. Appointments, testing, etc. are extra.

So, $5,400 a year for us to have the privilege of being able to immediately see their “on call” physician…

Just by my unscientific observations, it seems like a lot of them are going ”part time”. Try getting into see a dentist on a Friday, for example. Our regular NP that we see for ordinary things is only in the office 2-3 days/week.

You can thank Obamacare, forced vaxxing, med schools going woke, etc. It’s a coordinated atack on our healthcare system.

Lots of people retired, didn’t want to put up with the nonsense anymore, or aren’t even going medicine because they don’t want to deal with all the craziness. It’s not limited to doctors, but healthcare more broadly.

Goshen went with IU Health and finally got rid of them. I know the hospital in Marion wanted the Ob/Gyn business and slowing forced out some of the local groups and took them over. Goshen actually got some new Drs. and are taking new patients so I think it is a very localized thing.?

Also, a lot of younguns don't want to work hard enough to be a doctor, or nurse.
